Some days you have to make do with a release from Mill Creek.... ;)

AFAIK, the encode of this release uses 26GB of a 50GB disc but is not a step down in picture quality from the Universal Blu-ray encoded in VC-1.
Regardless of what's been said, I never had an issue with any Mill Creek disc; The Thing is another good example of this.

Indeed, this seems to be a step UP from Universal's original BD release, though the film itself isn't brimming with explosive detail or color. It is certainly serviceable, though, and boasts quite the aggressive DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track.

The timing of this October 2019 release from Mill Creek is odd as Universal re-released their VC-1 encode in January 2019.

The release from Mill Creek apparently omits special features on the Universal release.

All my discs from Mill Creek play properly.

I am disappointed when Mill Creek relies on an older master that benefits less in enhanced picture quality in the move from DVD to Blu-ray or when Mill Creek applies heavier than usual compression to minimize the number of discs needed.

I 'sigh' when I realize a favorite movie or TV series cannot find a distributor other than Mill Creek.

Wasn't aware of the release schedule; to be honest, I picked this up sight unseen, as I didn't think there would be vast discrepancies between the Universal transfer and Creek's on the size screen I watch.

I did watch a special feature on the Mill Creek disc regarding the making of the film and how they tried to connect the beginning of Carpenter's 1982 classic with the events that may have occurred at the Norwegian camp; there were some interesting interviews with both the Norwegian and American cast members.

I have read that some TV series have had compression issues from this label, as well as some "film collections;" I personally never had an issue with any of their releases.

The only thing I don't like about The Thing is that the setup menu doesn't include access to chapters directly -- and I've noticed this with quite a few "boutique" houses like Kino Lorber. So annoying when you want to find a specific spot in the film you left off from the night before...

Of all movies huh? What'd you think of it?

What are you referring to...Phone Booth? If so, I enjoyed it, which is why I have it on Blu-ray...what's so strange about that?

It is by far not a great film, but it's an enjoyable thriller IMO, much in the likeness of Panic Room.

Figured no one else remembered it. I don't really love it, but I think it's a decent movie.

Oh, I see; my apologies. Yeah, it's one of those little thrillers that flew in under the radar. Not great, but not terrible. Found it in a bargain bin in some CVS or somewhere, if I recall; it was worth the five or so bucks.
