This is a video with Rob Watts from Chord talking about DAC technology and basic assumtions about our hearing. Early on in his lecture he make the following claims:
We have no understanding of how the brain processes the ear’s data.
Make no assumtions ”we can’t hear that error”
Psycoacoustic hearing test of hearing theeshold do not evaluate the brains processing
Audio chips are design by simple technical performace not by sound quality
It is vital to correlate errors to sound quality and errors needs to be reduced until they no longer influence sound quality. The best listening test is when no change happens.
What do you think of these claims. What do we in fact know, what are just assumtions and to what extent are Watts assumtions - if at all - just nonsence?
