What dB level can you be exposed to in a Nightclub and how dangerous is it for your hearing?

My wife took an SPL measurement in the National Maritime Museum in Liverpool and it was in the 90s. That's the sought of rock and roll weekends we have these days

Most SPL meters will just show peak you need an expensive integrating meter to say much about the exposure over time.

I gave an SPL meter to a friend who often goes to nightclubs, showed him how to turn it on, and asked him to take pictures of the meter on the dance floor.
There was a mistake in the settings so there was no weighting, but even so I'm worried about his ears.
That's too loud, even if it's bass (Z-weighted)!

My wife used to work at the bar in a local music club to finance her education. Long shifts, rather loud environment, like 2 or 3 times a week. I can tell you she is paying the price now in her 50s.

I once went to see Days of the New. Their SPL meter at mixer position (about 50 yards from the stage) was averaging around 126 dB. The mixer was a total douchebag; he and the lead singer were flipping the bird at each other frequently. Total trainwreck...
