What CD Player would you like to see tested?

Not to spoil, but as a Sony player, before anything, it must play correctly the CDA...

And I measured it applies de-emphasis in digital domain, meaning that even a modern DAC like the SMSL SU-2, which does not apply de-emphasis internally, will play correctly these CDs:

Thank you Sony, and more to come!

I let you bet about the quality of the digital output, the drive or if it is gapless playback :p

Cheers

That's a great start, and a definite plus for the UBP-X700 (and what an elegant looking equalization curve that is). Sony seems to remain diligent about including this feature in their players, and as I have mentioned in another thread, even Sony's humble BDP-S1700U 1080p Blu-ray player that costs less than $115 is capable of applying de-emphasis, making it a very affordable "auxiliary" component if you happen to have CDs in your collection that were pressed in the '80s (many Classical recordings produced during that decade have pre-emphasis). I admit that I'm not much of a "betting man" so I won't place any wagers on the overall accuracy of the UBP-X700, but I'm hoping it can continue Sony's tradition of excellence.

It's the Sony SCD-XE800 SACD Player. Released in 2010 and was very affordable at around 200€.

Me playing with the new SMSL R100 DACs that uses very old R2R DACs from Analog Devices (AD1861J), which offered a MSB adjustment:

I'm like a kid with the new toy. And it is "Back to the Future" for me. I love it and my review is likely to be biased :p

That said, not to spoil the review, but with the (flawless) implementation of SMSL, we get the best of that DAC, and it's a real pleasure to test what was SOTA of the time.

The datasheet of the AD1861 will tell you all of what I'll review.
