What CD Player would you like to see tested?

My personal wish would be Cambridge Audio CD6 :)

DVD players with an HDMI output are likely to use an ASRC before outputting the digital audio, even from an Audio CD and at the SPDIF outputs. That means no bit perfect output, and sometimes really far from that.

That said, I still have a Sony DVP-SR760H, as a true budget dvd player. I could review it in full here. I remember it was not so bad from RCA out but suffered elevated noise floor and painfully slow mechanism. No miracle. EDIT: I just measured it again as I lost my previous data. It's a bad performer because of the high level noise and it processes the digital stream before conversion, obviously. I'll review when I find time but this is not a good investment as a CD player.
Thanks.

Personal wish list (among others):

1- Sony scd 555ES just to see how Sony improved its last "home made" 1 bit NA conversion/digital filtering system (before they went for Burr Brown IC).
2- CDP X555ES: to check the influence of a more sophisticated analog stage on the performances compared to the already excellent X333ES!
3- A very expensive audiophile CD player with fancy tube analog stages such as Audio research CD 8 or so (not so easy, I know).

Another vote for the Shanling CR60

If you're into a Transport, I measured today the Sony DVP-SR760H, coax out to an SMSL PS200 DAC, and...:

This is so good that we are extremely close to the WAV file which, when processed directly by the computer (no conversion), is:

This cheap Sony is a basic DVD player, but it outputs a surprisingly very good digital stream which, converted by an equally cheap DAC, provides the best measurements I have to report from an Audio CD.

Note the clock shows a 50ppm deviation in this test which is still good enough for Audio but somewhat disappointing in 2025, and that transitions to the DAC.

The drive is surprisingly fast and is one of the best to resist dropouts on a CD, almost a dream, if only it did not require a TV to know what track you're playing. I'll review it in full soon. The analog output is crap, though (noisy).

SMSL PL 100
Fiio DM13

Can you tell I'm in the market for a cheap desktop form factor CD player?

I tested the Fiio DM13, it’s in the list ;)
I’ll consider the PL 100, price to value seems good if it measures well.

The Technics SL-PG 4 had a reputation back then as an outstanding CD player, not only for its reasonable price of DM 199 / € 99. It was also a popular tuning item, even among commercial tuners.
It would be interesting to see reliable measurements for CD player and transport.

One of the Arcam cd players with the dcs ring dac would be nice to see measured,I’ve still got my alpha 9,must get it fixed,I actually felt like a broken audiophile when I couldn’t hear any difference between that and my alpha 7se 25 years ago,I was just obviously well ahead of the curve tho

NAIM CD-5i (or i) or si. Basically the entry level CD player by NAIM. At the moment the si is the one left in their catalog.

I found a CD5i but way too expensive ($800+) for a player that uses a low cost Philips converter (UDA1330ATS), even if it would be interesting to test it.

That's more of a fanboy's fantasy price.
Near mint Naim CD5i are traded around € 400-500, normal used devices are more around € 300-360. Of course only complete with puck and remote control

I'd like to see how my first CD player, a Philips CD 614 from 1990 measures. It was about 300 DEM then and had a coaxial digital output.

I'd love to see the Teac Cdp-650b tested. For me it's one of the worst cd players I have ever tried, but I could just have a faulty unit. Sound wise, subjectively, it sounds like a slightly overloaded fm radio, even with quieter cds. Thank you for what you do!

Now that I am thinking of it, to have fun with an unusual CD player, I suggest a Grundig CD-9009.

Yep, and I guess with the CXD1244 and two stereodacs (TDA1541), it’s the same staggered conversion architecture as the Sony CDP-337ESD. I’ll have a look at the schema. It would be interesting to know if Grundig activated the noise shaper in the filter though, it would helps the TDA to distord less. But as per the measurements of @bramjacobse, it looks very similar to what I got from the Sony.
Cheers.
