My personal wish would be Cambridge Audio CD6

Thanks.DVD players with an HDMI output are likely to use an ASRC before outputting the digital audio, even from an Audio CD and at the SPDIF outputs. That means no bit perfect output, and sometimes really far from that.
That said, I still have a Sony DVP-SR760H, as a true budget dvd player. I could review it in full here. I remember it was not so bad from RCA out but suffered elevated noise floor and painfully slow mechanism. No miracle. EDIT: I just measured it again as I lost my previous data. It's a bad performer because of the high level noise and it processes the digital stream before conversion, obviously. I'll review when I find time but this is not a good investment as a CD player.
Another vote for the Shanling CR60
I found a CD5i but way too expensive ($800+) for a player that uses a low cost Philips converter (UDA1330ATS), even if it would be interesting to test it.NAIM CD-5i (or i) or si. Basically the entry level CD player by NAIM. At the moment the si is the one left in their catalog.
That's more of a fanboy's fantasy price.I found a CD5i but way too expensive ($800+) for a player that uses a low cost Philips converter (UDA1330ATS), even if it would be interesting to test it.
Yep, and I guess with the CXD1244 and two stereodacs (TDA1541), it’s the same staggered conversion architecture as the Sony CDP-337ESD. I’ll have a look at the schema. It would be interesting to know if Grundig activated the noise shaper in the filter though, it would helps the TDA to distord less. But as per the measurements of @bramjacobse, it looks very similar to what I got from the Sony. Now that I am thinking of it, to have fun with an unusual CD player, I suggest a Grundig CD-9009.
