What CD Player would you like to see tested?

And how should it present the cd text?
Reading the CD Metadata is the smaller task in this case
 
Mike Creek wrote to me: evo 50 CD player was supposed to be able to read the text from the disc, but they didn't want to pay for a license to use it.
 
Not my usual area of expertise, but I was provided with the opportunity to test the new SMSL D200 DAC, and so I went for it.
I briefly tested its digital SPDIF input from a CD player (I could not resist, of course) and that was fun and interesting. I loved the possibility to adjust the delta-signa modulator oversampling rate. It’s a first for me, and that allows to reject even further the noise from the the noise shaper. @Scytales will certainly be thrilled with that one ;)
It will be a very good companion to a transport or CD player, high performing. I plan to do a full review in that context, but I think I nearly said it all, already.

Looking forward to your review. I suspect it will align with what has already been published and known about this player.
As a BDP-95 owner, I can already guess what your "(near) flawless" implies.
The unit has a fan. A noisy fan. Which, at least on my unit, eventually comes on and makes audible noise detectable from 6 feet away.
I only ever use it for CD playback and use it in "Pure Audio" mode which supposedly devotes the power supply to audio only circuitry.
I hunted down a quieter fan. Barely helped.
In frustration I left the top cover off. No fan. A ridiculous solution.
With no top cover I had to relegate the player to a shelf within my audio cabinet for dust mitigation. Again, less than ideal for swapping connections.
Anyway, it is what it is.
 
Something different. Harman Kardon DVD 25. It has quiet mechanics and nice lights, even on the remote

No because the fan of the one I have never came on during my testings, this is strange.

Strange indeed. To my chagrin, I came across quite a few threads about fan noise specific to the -95...after my purchase.
I guess some have been lucky. I have not.
I even had to send the unit back to OPPO to have the complete main output board replaced after intermittent audio output.
It was a fixed rate repair about 2 years ago I wanted to get done before they shut down any kind of factory servicing.
Fan still comes on and makes noise.
Perhaps some processors or heat generating items need to be re-greased and re-clamped to their respective heatsinks?
I don't know and don't intend to investigate further.

When it came to the market I was tempted to buy it. I was torn between the Marantz SA-8005 and the OPPO, and in the end I chose the Marantz because I found a second-hand one, like new, at half the list price.
At that time, about 10 years ago, I was impatient to hear the magnificence of Hi-Res audio, SACD and any format higher than 44/16. I already had a good DAC, but trusting tons of reviews I was expecting something very special when connecting this unit to a PC.
Well, you can imagine how the story ended: after several weeks of tests, on-the-fly conversions with Foobar and so on, I was not able to hear absolutely any difference related to the audio format — and here I am.
P.S. Those two players had very good results in AudioReview, an Italian magazine that does a lot of test measurements, so not only subjective reports. They were practically state of the art at that time.

Reviews that look at ergonomics, display, remotes etc are very useful. I have a Marantz CD-6007 which i like except for that the display is not bright enough even on the highest setting. Not a show stopper but somewhat important. I like to be able to read the Track # and elapsed time from where I sit which is about 12 feet away.

By the time of purchase consideration I had already written off any real or imagined "improvements" that SACD could offer because I had absolutely no intention of buying in to the hype and duplicity of SACD nor duplicating my collection in yet another format. I also knew by then that 44/16 is substantially good enough (beyond really) for our feeble, inconsistent, fault-prone biological hearing apparatus.
Nevertheless.... like you I did hope to hear a difference with the OPPO because I had assembled a decent signal path by then.
Of course I heard absolutely no difference compared to my run of the mill, circa 1985 Sony ES cd changer...!

Nice marketing rhetoric, but ultimately, this is a standard drawer drive, like the ones that were installed 30 years ago.
And the drive in the Tascam CD-200 is also damped and suspended.
What's the difference?
