The R1280T is a very popular model and going to bring a lot of traffic in, smart choice. I'm sure it's not a great speaker in absolute terms but might be hard to beat in the sub $100 category.
Agreed with this. The Edifier R1280T and R1280DB (adds Bluetooth and digital inputs) are logistical problem solvers for people who are starting from scratch. Namely, people who have a few analog or digital sources like a TV, gaming console, and turntable, and want something more substantial than a Bluetooth speaker, soundbar, or computer speakers without paying for a full-blown setup. And it comes with a remote control. $150 seems to be the max price point for this target audience.

Excited for Amir's review, particularly to see how the "flat" EQ setting measures vs. what's possible with EQ adjustments and how those adjustments affect volume output and distortion.

Edifier S1000DB. They are the highest rated speakers from Consumer Reports, and cost less than $350/pair new.

Did someone mention Infinity Reference 152 or 162 yet? They go on sale quite often for a crazy price.

They're made by Harman so I believe they're bargain versions of Revel M105 and M16.

I have the 152 and they sound great to me.

Master & Dynamic MA770 Wireless Speaker

These speakers used to be around $1600 each! Now on Amazon for $599.50 direct from the manufacturer.

I'm in the UK so I can't take advantage of this price, but this speaker has always intrigued me, and at this price you could buy two and make a stereo pairing. Very heavy speaker: 16.5kg/36.4lbs

Hello,
i have here some very good speakers from germany. I heard already Duetta and Son B MK II and they are really great.

https://acoustic-design-online.de/de/duetta-top-aktiv-346.html
http://lsv-achenbach.de/kits/son-b2.htm
http://www.frank-landmesser.de/bau_tafal.html

and of course DXT-MON from Heissmann Acoustics
https://heissmann-acoustics.de/dxt-mon-182/

Right now i have this speaker at home, but this would be difficult to send it in for measurements :)

Monoprice Stage Right 5” studio monitors for $160:
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=625880

2 reasons:

1. Just to see how Monoprice’s speakers stack up, as their collaborations in the headphone game are respected.
2. It has a ridiculous spec of 35Hz-20kHz.

Another could be that it recommends mid-point and not tweeter axis, and so far most speakers which have suggested that did better on tweeter-axis, so this would be another sample point in figuring out that reasoning.

Speaking about speakers in Germany: Audio Physic Classic 3 and 5 are incredible good value for the money. I've been listening to a pair of Classic 5. Amazing speakers , the person who was with me compared their sound with ATC , ProAC and other much more expansive speakers .

Considering I can find those speakers in my country at a very good price(1000euros/pair) I can put them in the "budget speakers" category.

Hi, this is my first post here in this very cool and interesting forum.

When it comes to budget speakers, I would suggest analyzing the ones available on the mass market and being bought by many customers, like those bluetooth speakers or "smart" speakers. I think this would give an interesting insight how good or bad those speakers are.

For example, I use the Bose Soundlink Revolve in my office and outdoors - and it doesn't sound good at all (without heavy equalizing). :D

Here are my quick-and-dirty measurements of this speaker:
Bose_FR.png

Of course, the boomy sound gets worse in the office when the speaker is placed on a desk close to wall and monitor.
Also, the highs sound very harsh due to the resonances at high frequencies and the 2.5 kHz peak is something like the counterpart of the BBC dip. ;)

I have measured this speaker being placed directly on the floor as its natural habitat is somewhere on furniture or floor. The free-air performance differs above 3 kHz but does not become much better. (The lowest half-inch of the grill is where the sound of the small down-firing full-range speaker comes out.) If interested, I can do more measurements on that speaker, but this will take time.

JBL Studio 570 towers are available for $280/ea...
Wow, that makes them even cheaper per pair than the 530 bookshelves.

Speaking of JBL, I'd love to see the LSR310S subwoofer reviewed. At $349 it's one of the cheapest studio subwoofers available.

Mackie have a new CR-X series in the <$500 price range as well including an 8" subwoofer with Bluetooth for $200.

They've already been mentioned but it would be interesting to see both the iLoud micro monitors and the more expensive MTM model especially with it having built in room correction software

I have bought the MTM version already. Won't be here for a week or two though.
