Maybe Edifier s350db / s351db? It's a 350$ complete set and seems fairly popular for its price, though here in Europe it is 230€ now including taxes.

My understanding is the speakers are all made by Axiom, they have a deal with Bryston. I would love to see anything by Axiom reviewed, but as you said they aren't budget speakers. I was looking at Axiom a while back, right when this happened, I hadn't noticed the change in drivers until now, I thought they were just selling the exact same models as Axiom.

I'd like to see some Axioms reviewed/measured too. They have good prices on refurbs or b-stock that are guaranteed to have in spec performance so you could buy one of those. I'd pitch in a $50 donation...
