What book are you reading?

I may have a soft spot for tales with a foodie theme.

Recently discovered Don Winslow's Neil Carey Series. Winslow is deservedly known for The Border Trilogy which I also highly recommend, as well as a bunch of California based crime novels, and I read pretty much all of those.

I didn't know about these but now I'm on my third one. Anybody who likes crime fiction should give these a try.

Inoffensive and a bit of a laugh, but a rather underwhelming purchase and a bit of a disappointment I am afraid. Sold with claims of being a scientific treatise but is instead rather banal and doesn't give particularly insightful or non-obvious answers to any of the questions posed. Proffers an abundance of saccharine sentimentality to substitute for the dearth of substance though. For example:

".....The most important part of the journey are the people and animals we meet. Our relationships ground us, provide cherished memories, and help us grow. Love is a universal language and anyone who loves chickens knows that they speak it too."

*groan*

I think my expectations were probably a bit too high on this one.

Ah iv got the audio version , I find Yanis and his ideas ' difficult ' but that's why I bother .

And posted with a terrible beer , is this some kind of new stealthy review strategy? Regardless, naturally I approve. I tend to post the other way , in the beer thread with my books ., ha ha

I have a lot of issues with Varufakis characterization of late capitalism as retaking feudal traits. Those traits have always been there.

I've recently been rereading some of the greatest works of philosophy of the 20th Century:

And no I'm not joking.

It’s a great morning beer. Italian builders must have done some blind tasting to come to this conclusion!
