By a country mile! Not that he was able to fix what's wrong with DP. There's a video somewhere of Bill Bailey doing Smoke on the Water on hand bells or something with Steve Morse on the same stage getting ready for a gig. Hilarious. (EDIT) Found it! It was a Royal Albert.

I never liked Blackmore and went off DP at about the age of 14. Steve Morse, otoh, a true guitar hero. In 2019 I hired a guitar teacher to get me back in shape for a project that, because reasons, never happened and first thing in the first lesson he gave me a chart entitled Steve Morse Alternate Picking Lesson. Really? First lesson?
