What are we listening to right now..

Steven Wilson's last work (although after I posted this I see I am not the only one caught in the wheel of Mr. Wilson)

A good intro intro to Mobley and his own writing/arranging. Doesn’t have his far reaching appearances as a sideman with others such as Miles, Coltrane, Kenny Burrell etc
Hank and Chet Baker along with Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew, Bill Evans’ Village Vanguard recordings ((vinyls ) were probably the black hole that sucked me into mainstream jazz.

The Mobley LP I bought new in around ‘78, the echoes of enja ‘82 is compilation album. I got to met Chet Baker ~’80 Both albums still play very clean after all these years

The wind howling outside since we're in the middle of a blizzard, and the 0-2" of snow predicted is now up to 8.5" on our deck and still coming.

And a bit of Boulanger's Nocturne while we still have power...

Yesterday's music is over and is today maybe time for something soothing?

Last night I attended a movie-with-orchestra:

This is the second one I've attended (Vertigo was the first). It's a lot of fun, and adds a significant new dimension to the movie. Wonderful score. The composer (Alan Silvestri) was there to introduce it, and David Newman (his younger protege who is a major film composer, and brother of one of my wife's former quartet-mates) was conducting. there were even some folks dressed up in role costumes, Rocky Horror style.

IMG apparently helps set these up with local symphonies. I'd recommend the experience. A lot more percussion and brass than most orchestral fare. The strings were bored, but the back of the stage was lit up.

My seat allowed me to see the monitor the conductor uses to sync with the film. I could see yellow bars go by and white circles flash. Anyone know how this works? Is it just a visual click track?
