Michael Manring - "No Wontons for Elvis" - two (2) versions​

The supernaturally talented and innovative bass guitarist for presumably 15 or so years didn't know that version 2. could even happen.

Interesting, but I think i'll stick with the original which I listened to live in '83. I was 12 years old and it was my first concert :) (Warning: Terrible audio quality!)

I suppose it would have been only a year or two before that was the only time I saw the band at the Apollo in Glasgow, before they had Spirit of Radio material in the show. Went with my friend Mark who sadly died only a few years after that.
 

PainKiller (John Zorn, Bill Laswell and Mick Harris) - Samsara (2024)​

Wow. This is a surprise. I had read that Laswell was poorly but had no idea how much he was suffering in the last couple of years. I had been a subscriber on Bandcamp and it just dried up. And just now I listen to this new album from the original PainKiller line up, 30 years on. What a suitable band name, just what Laswell needs, I guess. It's very good. Zorn and Laswell are both giant planets in my personal musical cosmology. I wasn't expecting this constellation to be seen again in my life.
