Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone here knows what the oldest AV receivers with bass management on analogue inputs in stereo (2.1) mode are?

Without cluttering my post with my reasoning for "oldest AV receivers", I specifically ask "with bass mangement on analogue inputs" because I read that on some AVRs, the crossovers don't work on the analogue inputs.

Any info on this would be much appreciated :)

I have no specific product to recommend. but even in the 2000 era things worked very similar to today.
we had bass management since the DVD era at least .

Bass management is typically digital so it usually never works in any pure direct analog mode for any product. So you must let your AVR digitize your analog input. Then it works just the same as any other input . Provided that the product can do bass management with stereo signals digital or analog, which the AVR I used 20 years ago could do if i remember correctly. It depends on the setup too.
you usually set the speakers as “small” or something and redirect bass to the sub .

I think I had a HK AVR5000 or similar that did as information . A product not to recommend was the more expensive AVR7000 buggy and prone to hum ? Me and I friend tested both at home and picked the cheaper one ( it was a slightly never design the AVR5000 ).
however I was not in any way and experienced HT buff back then and my product choices back then may not serve as recommendations really.

I recommend downloading the manual for any old product you’re interested in . Then you can find out for yourself.

My fave was the weighty 2000-era Sony DA777ES. Still have it, but ironically, the DSP section is shot (analog bypass works fine, and the amplifier stage is very nice).

That fault may be worth checking out further, given that the unit predates the era of faulty TI DSPs by years. Typical things I'd look out for are dead +5V regulators (not a rarity for JRC), bad solder joints and possibly surface-mount electrolytics.

I will snoop around and see what I can find - but it's way down on my list. I also have a huge TA-N77ES power amp with the big VU Meters (have two - one works, one doesn't, plus a working TA-N80ES as well). Probably just the large resistor that's known to burn on those. Need to check out both units some day!
