Wharfedale Diamond 12 Owner's Thread

playing loud less distance to the woofer than the legth of my phone is 103 db peak but 1.50-2 meters or there about is 86db avarage and sounds good, no shouting, boomy bass, just loud, medium bass, woofer movement

How many times when listening to music do you look at the binding posts '? NONE AT ALL, LIKE, NEVER
I bought these for twenty-five quid with two of the brass links fitted and bits of sh***y wire substituting for the others. I obtained some brass rod of similar 2mm gauge, cut to length and fitted them. I did initially feel the tweeters were slightly too 'hot' (they weren't in the event but still), so set about attenuating them a little in the +ve line to see what would happen. That's when I discovered the bass-mid 'terminals' were at the top... I very soon re-instated them to normal with all four linking rods the same as supplied, did the posts up tight and use them as intended with 2.5mm gauge cables and solidly fitted 4mm plugs, as is the norm here in the UK.

And yes, they'be been set up in this rig for a couple of years now. They're not used much at all, but as you say, I no longer bother about the connections on the back, apart from very occasionally checking the terminals for tightness (they're fine!) :D

Update im watching tv and the midrange is really good, no sparkel, bright ish midrange, highs, generally a good balance

Bass i talked about alot is not unnaturally boomy,no port noise, bass is not rated super low (but deep, loud enough do to how roomfit adjusts it) is clean up to a high enough level for most people, since it doesn't have to do super low bass

I think, feel bass is very differentiated, somtimes there is no bass (very little) and sometimes alot of bass and now it just sounds good, many times music just don't have enough bass.

wiim vibelink + ultra stream has amazing bass with the diamond 12.1i's

Any other 12.2 owners experiencing a hot region between about 4khz and 8khz? I've always felt mine sounded a bit aggressive in that range but only recently had a proper measurement mic to test it. After several tests and changes to speaker positions it's consistently there. A roughly 5db rise peaking at about 6khz. I'm surprised as measurements of the 12.1 don't show this. Any thoughts?

I've EQd to correct and definitely prefer it now.

use room correction

My crappy room with bare concrete/tile surfaces is still essentially flat uncorrected from 500Hz upwards (from ARC X measurements), and I never heard any excess sibilance with my 12.2s hooked to either a Fosi V3 or Topping PA5 II.

So your case is pretty baffling to me.

Interesting, thanks. I think my situation must be a room issue as I have some big limitations on speaker placement. I've tried using Wiims room correction but the result was poor. EQ by eye was better, but my best result has been by loading my frequency graph into ChatGPT and asking for EQ suggestions. The suggested EQ is much milder than Wiims and sounds considerably better to my ears.

You must not use the mic on some random phone, tablet, it's not good enough and you might end up with a to high lowering of the high frequency

My adjustments (you can see i need room correction)

Got tired of hunting for a used pair of 12.1s and bought a pair of 12.2i. Based on past performance, a scratch and dent discount from Crutchfield, and their generous 60 day return policy, I decided the risk is minimal.

I limit my wiim vibelink/ultra streamer to 80% volume, all the way up on my vibelink do to smoother volumes when i use it, the feeling is smoother of a higher tier than the streamer, it handles everything at every volume with a punchy bass starting at 1-2 o'clock even lower volume the bass is good and 50-60hz (roomfit) is more than enough, sounds more punchy than similar sized speakers and speakers up to 6 or 6.5" woofer

wiim amp pro,nad c316bee and cambridge audio cxa35 should be perfect in power for the 12.1i's

More is a waste of power as long as the 3 mentioned amps don't distort

Very late reply - I tried the 12.0 with REL tZero and found them very compatible. I wanted more deep bass than the tZero can deliverso went in a different direction, but the little Diamonds and the little REL were a nearly perfect match.

it helps if the crossover is 50-60hz rather then 80-120hz and for best results you need atleast the 12.1's for 50-60hz crossover

It will also make the sub play louder or more deep bass compared to a crossover at 80-120hz

What did you get ?

Can the REL Tzero MKIII play loud enough ?

Thats about how my 12.1is measure. more bass at high levels mabye do to Dynamic Range (Instantaneous Compression Test) that erincs corner measure
In room measurements cannot be directly compared to anechoic ones like from Klippel NFS, even more in the bass/modal region.

Oh i have posted my measurements

If i want a quality compact sub that can up with the 12.1i what is a good one ? As the speakers and amp are not super expensive it's 500 euros or less

Update

I can't adjust the volume from my wiim streamer since it's set to a fixed volume out

Volume is adjusted on my amp and it has to be the streamer that adjust volume from a sub

My amp vibelink i don't think is able to handle bare wire from a subwoofer for signal and spades

Is the 12.2i much bigger than the 12.1i, according to specs it's not

Update i finally got an answer from hififreaks in denmark

The site didn't say spring20 (20% discount) and i had problems friday buying a pair of 12.2i

But finally bought a pair, so in 2-3 days i get one
