Wharfedale Diamond 12 Owner's Thread

The point I was trying to make was that it would be difficult to tell if the new ones do get measured and the old ones won't.
But yeah I don't really have any need to upgrade them as they are my front top atmos channels, but maybe after the new ones drop I'll get a new pair of the originals dirt cheap and I'll replace my rear top channel diamond 220 speakers and enjoy matching four channels of atmos top channels.
You can use the 12.1 measurements as a rough reference, the design is very similar in all likelihood...

Yup that's why I bought 12.2 just with more bass. And it is indeed plentiful.

I currently run Wharfie D330 mains in a 2.1/music and 3.1/TV setup. I'm mostly concerned about music. I've been searching for an upgrade, 12.4, 12.3, even 240 or EVO 4.2. Anyone have any thoughts on whether these would be true upgrades? I have a Denon X1800H, listening position is 13' from fronts, room is 15x18 with long wall completely open to much larger space, mains are and will be 1' from back wall. I'd have to buy any of these models non-returnable, probably used so any info upfront is appreciated. Thanks!

The Evo 4.2 should be a very noticeable upgrade, the 240 and 12.X less so but probably still noticeable...

Don't get the Evo 4 series. Check out Amir's review. It wasn't tuned by Comeau and it's obvious when listening to it that it's not balanced well.

Better get the Diamond 12 or Evo 5 which is out now as well: https://www.wharfedale.eu/products/...z2CLdTETT3PVyeGhwUzFT2&variant=54866336874820

YMMV but from my firsthand experience 12.2 sonically wins over Evo 4.2 by a large margin. Not to mention how much cheaper the 12.2 was.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the new 5 series, but I won't be one bit surprised if it didn't stack up well on a per dollar basis against the 12 either.

That said, I have little interest in new passive speakers now. Maybe an audition or two....But a purchase? Probably never again.

interesting... i'm glad you chimed in considering you have experience with both...

Thank you. I lucked (?) onto a mint, used, pair of 12.3 and took a chance for $600 shipped across the US. I know they are similar in basic design to my D330 but I'm hoping they are a nice step up sonically. I do like the D330 but always hoped for some more... will see!

That should be a noticeable upgrade....

I was just checking out the 12.2i at Crutchfield.

I am glad to see Wharfedale get rid of those silly dual sets of binding posts on the "i" line. :)

Actually my 12.1 where some of the few loudspeakers I found them helpful :D

I have the Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 and in the year that I have had them I've tried other speakers from Mission, Klipsch, Fyne Audio and Elac and nothing comes close i have returned them all. The Elacs are being collected in the next few days.
Agree. I'm a long time speaker diyer and purchased a pair of 12.1 a few months ago at a good price as a reference after having see Amirm's Klippel measurements. These little speakers are really amazing in terme of build/technical design qualities. If I remember well, I counted some 14 filter components par speaker. The rare defects are some differences in frequency response I measured between the two speakers although not very audible or even not at all and sometimes strange bass (as if resonant) _ maybe an outcome of the 2/3kHz dip. I had to work hard to create better speakers of similar dimensions.:)

The only thing I don't like is how boxy they are, could look a lot better with rounded corners.

Also the 12.s have custom drivers, unlike some who take $100 off the shelf drivers and putting them in a cabinet to ask for megabucks (won't be mentioning names).

Deal fell thru so it's back to my search....

How is it possible that there are still no measurements for the Wharfedale Diamond 12.2?! There is already a 12.2i, but still no measurements.

I'm trying to choose between the 12.2i and the Dali Oberon 3.

The Triangle Borea BR04 is even better for me, but the price is much higher.

To each his own but I have the 12.2 and O3 here and while the 12.2 is heavier, built better, the O3 sounds much better to me (and i consider myself a Wharfedale fan). The Dali is just more present and open. I liked it so much I brought in the O5 to try in my home.

Strongly considering getting the 12.1s for a bedroom system but they will need to go about 30cm from the sidewalls, from what I've read they like clear space so any opinions on the effect near sidewall placement will have on SQ?

Hello Hal,

From my experience the 12.1 have a very solid bass range (not low-bass), so maybe it would be wise to completely or partly plug the vent particularly if your speakers are near your front wall. ;)

Thank you, I'll keep that in mind
