Hi, long time lurker.

The local shop has a return pair of Linton 85s at €950, or new Aura 2s at €1300 on sale. I've read the various reviews including Erin's glowing recommendations, and understand the limitations of both speakers.

Amp is a Rotel A12 mk2, sources are digital, mainly music and cinema

My room is modern, open plan. Long kitchen - diner - living area. 36' long, 18' wide, narrows at one end (living area) to 12' wide over a 12' length. Hard floor, oriental carpets, sloping roof.

Speakers have to be placed in this area, facing across the room, not lengthways. So it's effectively 12' x 12' with three walls and an open side.
Sofa is located along rear long wall so about 9' speaker to listener

I can't have speakers too far out from the wall, maximum about 8". I'm assuming this rules the Linton 85's out and I'm also wondering if the space is maybe too cramped for the Aura 2s?

Linton are sensible to being close to walls, specially corners. They have wide dispersion and they create huge gains with these walls. Be careful if you don’t have DSP or plugs for bass ports or bass traps.

Yes, I was thinking they wouldn't suit the boundary conditions set by the room. I had Quad 12L standmounts but they have gone, and Q acoustics M20 which are OK for TV but too light for music.

Room layout, living area on RHS ~ 12' x 12'.
