Welcome New Members to ASR, introduce yourself here.

1 - Welcome to the forum.

2- If you want advice, this is not the thread for it - this is for introductions. I suggest re-posting your request for advice in a more appropriate location.

3 - When you do - please don't just post model numbers - then you are forcing your readers to search for the model numbers to find out what type of device it is, and how your system is set up. Instead post the model number plus description (EG Teac AR 600 - integrated amplifier)
That is my intro; I've understood how a forum works. I have no request there
Copy for model+description; is it better now?

Hello ASR

I've been out of the hobby for a long time, but never completely gave up my drive to have my music sound it's best to my ears.
I've recently dived back in to find a lot has changed since I last followed things closely. I'm happy to see that "digital" is no longer a term to be whispered in the dark and that, for the most part, coexists with the analog world that came before.

Currently we have a whole home SONOS system. Audiophile quality, no, but a convenient way to keep ourselves entertained. Near future plans call for setting up something for myself in one of the rooms.

I've found DAPs a great way to escape from the pressures of the day and annoyances of my phone. To that end I currently enjoy using:

On Ear Phones: Bowers & Wilkins P5, AKG N60
IEMs: BASN MiX-PD, 7Hz Timeless II, DUNU 142, Hidizs MP145
DAPs: Astell&Kern SP3000T-Cu, Astell&Kern SP3000M, Cayin N3 Ultra, FiiO JM-21.

I look forward to learning from others, sharing what I've learned along the way, and the camaraderie of the hobby.

-Jon

Allo!
I’ve been in and out of mid level studios mainly in the 90’s and early 00’s taking a break to raise a kid, and now have dipped back into it a bit. I spent some time with Glen Robinson recording and mixing a couple of single-day records in Montreal, and mastered an EP at Le Studio before it melted. Seems like a lifetime ago… Anyway, glad to be here and to dive into what seems like 10,000 years of combined wisdoms between everyone.

I have a modest home setup:
headphones: AKG N90s, looking for a second set
speakers: Adam F5’s, shopping for a small sub
Mac Mini with various DAWs and Clarett 2Pro interface, looking to build out with a modest, likely used preamp and comp into the interface.
Mics: two modest but tried and trues- Sennheiser e906 and an SM57 Uni III

Hello from Surfrat.

I am an electronics/software engineer from South Africa. I cut my teeth as a portable DJ and made all my own equipment. I love the science/engineering first approach that is prevalent here. Schooling my junior dev's that there is no room for "I think it passed" etc. just hard facts :)

Just put together an entry level 2 channel/5.1 channel system using a laptop, Fosi Q6 DAC, Sound Blaster x4, Fosi ZP3 preamp (switches main channels between Q6 and X4 and provides bass split for sub and mains at 80hz), Fosi v3 amp and two Fosi ZA3 amps. These are driving Polk ES15 mains, an ES35 center, an XT12 sub and ES10 rears. Vey happy with the result.

Got a Umik 1 mic and SPL meter to start playing with room correction.

Love the site and visit every day.

New member here. I've been dabbling in audio since I was a child, both home and car audio. Turns out its a life-long obsession. A few years ago I moved into a custom built tint house, fully off-grid. I had been surviving with a small bluetooth speaker and finally decided enough was enough. I had to dedicate some power to having a hungry system but it was worth it. Started collecting vintage gear again and got some things setup, mainly for LP's.
Current setup is a fresh rebuild Sansui 8080. After the full restore its pushing a little over 100 wpc. Driving a pair of mint Polk Audio Monitor 10's. I pulled them from a guy's crawlspace, in the original shipping boxes, foam and all where they had sat since 00'.
Turntable is a Music Hall MMF7. Its an ugly table if you ask me but the sound is sweet.

I look forward to digging in deeper and learning from all the heads here. I'm already hungry for more...

Belated apologies.

I saw your reply - re-read your intro, realised I'd misunderstood it, and intended to apologise back then. Obviously I never got back to it.

Please accept my unreserved welcome to the forum.

Hi folks!

In a way, my joining here is part of some trauma processing, as I’m actually waving goodbye to two »stereo family members« who have been with me for more than 45 years: A Sony STR-5800 and a Sony PS-X60.

Was spending some days before, to check out possible fixing/refurbishing solutions, but they all were far from promising. So I decided to sell the units. They will definitely leave a gap.

The table will be replaced by a new one, for sure. Maybe I can get some help here to pick the right one?

Thanks for having me, thanks for reading!

Pauli

Hi everyone!

Been reading along here for a while and decided i'd like to participate. Been in the hobby for a while, bought the HD600 in 2001 and it's still in service. I mess around with pretty much anything and i hope to learn more how to relate what i hear to what i see on a screen.

Greeting from Germany, the lang of beer and bratwurst.
My hifi journey began about 10 years ago. I listen mostly to vinyl, but occasionally also to cds, tapes and even to bluetooth from the phone and or tv, all in stereo, and with vintage gear (all before 1980, except cables, cartridges and whatnot).
After a lot of gear swapping and such, i finally reached the point of diminishing returns, so time to move on.
Next step is to invest some time into room treatment and dsp.
Looking forward to swap some knowledge

Hello everyone, I'm based in Palo Alto, California. I've read many posts here for quite some time, but I just made my first post yesterday. And, of course, without realizing it, I violated the forum rules by posting a link without a summary paragraph. :) Since been fixed!

I've loved listening to music all my life, and over the years have made some major upgrades to my audio system, with the last major upgrade 25 years ago featuring Bryston electronics and B&W speakers. I realize this forum is down on B&W, but I love the sound of mine. I got my first CD player back in 1983, I think, a Yamaha CD-X1. It eventually died, and I replaced it with an Arcam Alpha 9. When it died, I ripped all 2,000 of my CDs and got a Squeezebox Touch.

Today I have a dedicated music room with my Bryston amp, Schiit pre-amp, and B&W speakers. I use Raspberry Pis as streamers connected to a variety of DACs from Topping and Schiit. I run both piCorePlayer and Volumio on the Pis. Fun fact - I developed Volumio's Spotify plugin. It's been redone since, but it was a fun project.

One really cool thing that Bryston did a couple of years ago was run a "Back to the Future" campaign, where you could ship your amp to them (if it was over 20 years old, since they had a 20-year warranty) and they would refurbish it so it was better than new. Apparently, they make better capacitors than 25 years ago. Did I notice a difference in sound? No, but it was still fun doing that, and it added another 5-year warranty to the unit.

I have a bunch of Sonos speakers throughout the house, and since I work from home, I listen to a pair in my home office all day.

My first rock concert was Jethro Tull at the Syracuse War Memorial in 1974. Tickets were $5. While I grew up listening to progressive rock, I really enjoyed 80's music, with bands such as Roxy Music and Ultravox. Today I mostly listen to EDM, with bands like Above & Beyond among my favorites.

It took me a long time to realize the high-end audio world was deceiving me, and everyone else, and I posted an article on this subject on Medium 10 years ago titled "Truth, Lies and Fraud in the Audiophile World." I just posted a follow-up article yesterday.

Here is my music room. Note that I haven't taken any measurements to prove this, but I do believe that ice-cold martinis really bring out the room's soundstage!

Hi guys, I've just recently upgraded from Yamaha AS-701 2.1 system to Denon AVR-X2800H 6.1 paired with identical JBL Stage 250b surround speakers and SVS SB2000 subwoofer, display is an entry level 50 inch Samsung UE50U8072F LCD Crystal LED TV with VA panel but very satisfied with samsung displays so far, it gets a backlight with D65 natural white osram led light (to deceive a bit my vision and increase the apparent contrast effect, the lumen value is more stronger than the recommended 10% of the display brightness) the source is a desktop PC. Audyssey MultEQ editor app has been used for disabling the midrange compensation dip. The measurement with REW has not done yet, but coming soon
What do you think of the JBL Stage 250?

Greetings from the East Mountains of New Mexico from a new member. I'm a retired engineer and have been an audio enthusiast since high school. I've owned a lot of audio equipment over the years and currently have a modest 5.1.4 AV system in my living room with a NAS, 4K Blu Ray player, Apple TV 4K, Ugoos AM6B+ and a turntable for sources. I just put together a stereo system in the bedroom and have new Technics SL-1200GR2 and a CD player as sources. I just bought a Gen 1 Apple AirPort Express that I'm going to connect to an RME ADI-2 and see if I can Airplay stream Apple Music to it and get 44.1 16bit resolution on the stereo. Will see... As an engineer, I enjoy and appreciate the objective testing and reviews that ASR provides.

Watcha! (Southern English/home counties greeting - or at least it was 30 years ago :-) )

Welcome to ASR!
Tull in '74 must have been a great first concert. Minstrel In the Gallery is one of my all-time favorite albums.
I will need to swap you martinis for margaritas though...

I like margaritas too! And yes, it was a great first concert to see.

Last weekend I was using Claude, an AI tool, to explain the meaning behind many of my favorite songs. I had it explain Aqualung, which I thought was about a pedophile. It turns out it was about homeless people. And when Jethro Tull did a special concert years later of the entire album Anderson donated all of the proceeds to a homeless charity.

Hard to believe Ian is still putting out albums and performing at 83
Not to worry about Aqualung. Ask Claude what Cross-Eyed Mary is about...
