Welcome New Members to ASR, introduce yourself here.

Hello,

I've been visiting this site for almost a decade. I'm generally interested in everything and specifically interested in how things work; how they are made, and why they perform the way they do - so a never ending spiral of analysis. The information here has been inspiring. Sometimes I delude myself into thinking of getting some proper education in electrical engineering then I realize I don't have the time. Perhaps I will buy an oscilloscope, perch it on a shelf next to my broken dreams, stare longingly at it, and call it a day.

I went to school for science and art and hopefully will be a graduate student soon.

I posted a new thread and when I checked on it, it was grayed out with a line through the subject. Can anyone help with that?

Hello,

When I was looking for a replacement of my Philips Internet radio, I stumbled on Volumio. It appearde I needed a DAC. And then I found this forum. So I got myself a Topping D10. And it works fine. After reading a lot more, I have decided to join and possibly contribute.

Cheers from France.

Hi everyone, new guy here. Or kind of old guy if you count my previous audio affiliations - I was Morse on the Fullrange Forum and DIY Audio back in the '90's and early oughts.

Life has kept me busy, haven't had the time to DIY for years and at this point I'm getting ready to retire in a few years. Over the last year I've been getting back into audio as I throttle back. That and spend more time with the cats. If there's anyone reading this that remembers me from other fora, I still have the DIY 2A3 SET and Fostex twin driver FE164's, though they're semi retired, don't want to burn up my supply of SovTek valves. Never was really satisfied with the cabinet design and haven't had time to work up an improved one. The little gainclones I tossed together for my home and work office are still going strong, though I'm semi retiring them too - they've got decades of daily use so they've earned a rest.

These days I'm not doing nearly as much with gainclones and SET's, its mostly Fosi & SMSL based. Current kit is Fosi P3, V3 Monoblocks, SMSL PL200 CD/DAC & Hiby R4. Also have a Monoprice Monolith on the way. Speakers are the IL10's I'd used for home theatre back when I was using a Jolida 202 for the audio. RCA's are Mogami Wire with Amphenol connects, kept 'em short. Also have some vintage kit from the '70's in storage and I have been planning to get back into vinyl once I cleaned up/restored my old turntable, but figured I'd pull the trigger on a new turntable ASAP so I can actually listen to the vinyl I add to my library. Its kind of a preparing for retirement project.

Anyway, hello out there, hope you guys don't mind an old guy who likes audio hanging around.

I haven't been on in a while. I always have a hard time finding the filterable equipment review table. Can someone provide a link?

ah. bummer!

I'm just someone who wants acceptable audio experience without issues. I am not yet interested in nerdy stuff.

Hey everybody, long time lurker here. I've been a Head-Fi forum member since 2003... so not exactly new to the hobby!

Just upgraded my main stereo system to all Benchmark gear following this forum's recommendation and I'm amazed by it!
Currently awaiting the new RME ADI-2 DAC FS for the headphone rig, also after reading all the glowing reviews everywhere.

Great to be here officially!

Hello. I've been lurking for a few months and recently joined ASR.

After buying some things last year, I've been happily enjoying my small CD collection. That changed a little when I started to get this "itch" after I found out about what other people were talking about online. I was never into buying lots of hifi, but then I found out about this mysterious thing called a "DAC". After doing a lot of additional research, I finally decided that the DAC in my CD player is good enough and that I really don't need more hardware. Speaking of which, I think my setup sounds great. I can't detect any distortion and, as I've learned from forums like this one, I'm pretty sure most of the sound signature is just due to the design of my headphones. Buying something like a DAC probably won't make much a huge difference in what I hear, and if I'm already happy, why spend money? Thank you all for educating me!

My setup:
- Project CDBox S3
- Project HeadBox S2
- Sennheiser HD 620s

Smart move.

It is, and you don't.

It won't

and if I'm already happy, why spend money?
Indeed.

You are already in the right headspace not to be ripped off by this hobby. As far as electronics as concerned, you pay money for features (including DSP), power, aesthetics, after sales support and so on. Not for sound quality.

Speakers are perhaps a different topic -but if you are happy with what you have, stick with it. It can get very expensive if you start down that rabbit hole.

Hi! New member but been a daily stalker for a coupla years. Music lover, science respecter, cheap performance pursuer. 32, maths teacher, 300 records I wanna sell and replace with Roon server/digital versions. Current system does the job on the cheap: SMSL A300, wiim pro streamer, smsl su1 DAC, Monitor Audio Bronze 200 floorstanders. Love the speakers but wanna ditch the 3 box thing as soon as I can afford to. Thinking that the newly announced Wiim amp ultra will break new ground as far as being powerful enough, transparent enough, cheap enough, and with room EQ, that I'll just get that. Tend to just hold onto things a long time, so that might be my end game unitl I can get something like a eversolo a8 and pair of neumann kh420, or whatever the hell looks good and measures well at that time. Might add a tonewinner sub (chinese) to the current system at some point, but the bronze 200s go down deep enough for our little flat.

Deference to Amir and all who've contributed to the project of bringing cheap, performant hifi gear to the masses. Truly noble.
