Welcome New Members to ASR, introduce yourself here.

Hello everyone and I am Jim living\retired in Japan. I'm very glad I found ASR as a way I can gain knowledge in making correct purchase choices for home audio. I primarily am a home theater person 7.2.4 but really enjoy immersive music videos.

I have learned an awful lot already and unfortunately my LCR are not music grade but do the job for home theater. I don't know how much I will be able to contribute with almost everyone being way about my audiophile level.

BTW, living in Japan I miss out on discount pricing as almost all consumer items rarely can be bought below MSRP until close-out time.
Cheers! Jim

Hi, I'm Luke, short time lurker, first time poster.
Just beginning my audio journey, and am a little overwhelmed with the hoards of info available and opposing view points from prominent personalities.
The hobby reignited itself when i got a nice set of desktop monitors, and has snowballed rapidly.
Bought a great(to me) pair of used tower speakers, but still dont have anything to drive them(my current avr has a lower limit of 6ohm, speakers dip to 3.2).
sure i will be here for a long time.
Thanks.

Howdy,

I honestly do not remember who/what directed me to ASR, but I'm glad they did. After seeing some honest reviews of my own gear that would have swayed me on a $499 purchase (headphone) and a $200 purchase (DAC/Headphone amp), I figured I better join the forum and contribute, so I did about a month ago. Some of us need a little help making informed choices (especially the impulsive types ).

I'm 65, retired and my hearing is average for my age (where are you 13kHz?). I figured I'd better fix up a simple, pleasant sounding music system for my old hearing to fade with (hopefully, over the next 35 years ;)). Using data from ASR reviews I just bought some of nicely rated floor standing speakers that were on sale, a DAC/ preamp and I'm waiting for my new amps to arrive. I already have a large FLAC collection and a subscription to Qobuz.

Mainly these days it's jazz, some classical (mainly lively stuff please), some 60s,70s & 80s rock, recently 95% of what I like is instrumental music of whichever genre I'm listening to.

Thanks for what you folks do.

Brad

Welcome! The good thing about ASR is (as much as possible) the bottom line is hard facts, not opinions or reputations. If I have my choice between a fact and an opinion that conflicts with the fact, I usually go with the fact. If you feel the same then you've found the right place.

I think it's all of us, unless we happen to have high-end audio analyzers or speaker scanners in the garage. Welcome!

Greetings all. I've spent the last month or so getting way too into researching audio topics and speakers in anticipation of moving into a new home and, with it, building a new 5.1 audio system for the living room. Thanks to Amir and all the other regular posters for the invaluable knowledge and opinions, and soaking up way too much of my waking hours (plus yet more hours that probably should not have been waking!).

Hi there, I've been reading ASR for years now and enjoyed its pragmatic approach to audio systems. Since I was a kid, I've been building my audio gear, and moved to more formalism when developing my systems along the years. I thus abandoned my transistor Class A single-ended schematics and large open baffles to switch to more efficient solutions ... So I'm now running the very typical setup based on CamillaDSP, LMS/Squeezerlite/Material and many little details to make that more useable by my family.
After DRC and digital crossovers, 2 NCore stereo digital amplifiers feed a pair of three-way loudspeakers I have designed and built (measure speakers/prototype enclosures/iterate/fine-tune...) based on quite standard SEAS speakers with some quite good results. With that setup I can also enjoy vinyls from my Rega Planar 3 - strangely I focus more on vinyls, when I'd say I consume music with digital streaming (not always the case, but this is more for casual listening).

As I have benefited from many posts/articles here, I'll share my experimentations and developments here to feed the community with more options.
I now have my eyes on the Purifi Audio website, waiting for them to release officially the SPK16 kits that I'll probably run along 2 subs - unless I find their 2-way systems will deliver sufficient sound pressure on their own.

Hi everyone, I live in Germany(not a German though!). I had been a reader for some time and really respect the work done here. The insights this forum brings into what really matters in terms of audio reproduction is awesome. ASR really helped me, deciding my last buy - KEF Reference 3 floor standers. I am planning to build a good system with them as the main component. Currently they run from a T+A A1500 power amplifier(which I picked up used) As of now, the source is an old ARCAM Solo receiver (very old, but sounds decent to me)- I use its pre outs -> T+A A1500. I do not have room acoustics as of now. I have a Mac as source to the Solo receiver, on which I am planning to run some DSP software.

Hello fellow ASRers, allow me to introduce myself.

Ropeburn aka Doge (in online circles) is a middle aged guy who likes a good sound, but for a reasonable price. As a lover of electronic music since the 90s and with a degree in electronics since the early 2000s, my search has always been about what kind of quality in terms of clarity, punch and bass performance you can get out of affordable gear. 30 years as an amateur musician, which I guess makes me a seasoned expert in producing crap music ( :D) only reinforced that.

I do not believe in audiophile snake oil, especially if it can't be proven technically, but instead is easily explained away by subjective audiopsychology. I do believe there are two main things: first, objective, tangible and measureable properties of a piece of technology, and then second and most importantly our highly adaptive ears and brains that can do wonders. What we enjoy or not is very much a matter of learning to do so. I have done carefully set up automated double blind tests for example - which revealed that my ears can reliably tell the difference between 192kbps MP3 and FLAC, encoded from the same source, but not anymore above that lossy bitrate.

I take personal pride in knowing my ears' objective limits, which certainly don't get better with age. I heavily suspect not every self-proclaimed audiophile can honestly say the same. Maybe it's an attitude left over from my days as a sergeant at my country's army long ago. You simply do not have time to waste on bullshit that does not give a real advantage to anyone.

The last months I've read a lot here on this forum, and learned a great deal about audio in general, and how measurements translate to real world conditions. Thanks to everyone for that, and Amir in particular. There may even have been the one or the other buying decision influenced by ASR - I got an SMSL DO100 for a very good price (120 Eur) lately, and it sounds very pleasant, neutral and almost perfect - exactly what I was looking for.

I hope to learn further and maybe contribute a little here and there with my audio hamfists and direct language. Chapeau!

Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a few months and I would like to thanks everyone who contributes to this forum. I've learned a lot of useful information about how to get the most from the equipment I have with speaker placement and equalization. This approach to audio based on measurements and understanding is more helpful to me than any other forum I've looked at. It's also been fun to read into some more technical audio topics. I hope to be able to use more of what I've learned in the future and maybe build some speakers.

Hello from the UK! I've just joined as I am a self-confessed hi-fi addict (and ex electtronics tech) who just can't kick the habit of picking up yet another project.
I've assembled my "final" system (Yamaha A-S2100, Marantz SA-KI Pearl, Garrard 401/SME3009 and TDL Monitors), cleared out loads of kit with still more to go and now I've gone and bought a MF Tri-Vista 300 to restore......
Here looking for help (and at least some like-minded folk!)

Hello everyone,

I live in Germany and have been passionately listening to music at a high sound level since my youth. For many years, I followed the reviews in HiFi magazines to assemble my audio components. Over time, the reviews became increasingly obscure and eventually turned into a cult-like bullshit bingo. Three years ago, I stumbled upon the ASR forum by chance and initially followed the ASR news sporadically, then with growing enthusiasm. I learned a lot and replaced some of my audio components based on the very helpful ASR reviews. Many thanks to Amir and his diligent colleagues.

My current setup includes the Revel Ultima Studio 2 speakers, two AVM M3 Next Generation mono amplifiers, the Eversolo DMP-A8 streamer, and the Rose RSA780 CD ripping drive. For room acoustics measurement and DSP-FIR filter calculation, I use a miniDSP UMIK-2 microphone and REW software.

My highlights in the ASR forums so far have been the Snakeoil thread, the early mention of ChatGPT, and the amazing little y'ung band from Mexico “The Warning,” introduced by Amir. The live concert of the three highly talented musicians completely blew me away.
