Welcome New Members to ASR, introduce yourself here.

Thank you!~ You've been busy since then, though :p >4,600 posts in two years? Ouch. I've always been kinda on-and-off though depending on my random interests of the week/month/year. Think my attention span has drifted a little over the years, lol.
Ah yes - I seem to be a bit of a serial monogamist when it comes to forums. Over the years I've drifted from photography forums though cycling forums, and now currently audio, spending some years with each. When I settle though, my chosen forum gets *all* my attention.

Nice to meet you.

I discovered this forum recently while trying to replace my old speaker.

I like silent. My pc has a very large heatsink that is hard to find a small case, and it is easy to conflict with motherboard vrm's heatsink. Fans only have to spin very slow that they would not produce audible noise. Psu is not very good, its fan produce lot of noise. I stop the fan, make sure the air flow and wind tunnel is desired, running system at low power (about 200w at full load, low load most of the time, psu is 600w 80gold). It is not too noisy now (has some clicking sound, some times coil whine, not very loud).

I like music, but not listen to it all the time. Wish the speaker has no noise at all while not using it.

Favourite piece is fugue in c minor from WTC I. I think it is a very good example of fugue. Also like nhelv, transcendental etudes no 2 and other piece.

I gain a lot of information and knowledge from this site though still can't fully understand all the test and result. Listing the price, giving preference score and eq helps a lot.

Thank you to all the contributors and members.

I have some question.

Is spinorama looks the same at all db?

Also, I notice most eq is done around 86db. How about 70, 60, 50 db?
Could you lowering all the high frequency but not the low frequency?
By doing so, is it possible to have more low frequency? I think this also means compromise the speaker highest db.

Welcome, @arietinum to the forum. I hope you get the answers you need here.

This thread is not the right place to ask questions - is is a "Saying Hello" thread. If you find the speakers section of the site here:

Hey folks, I'm Jason.

I am the maintainer of Raspotify, a librespot contributor, 20+ year Linux user, all around nerd and long time fan and lurker of this forum. If anyone has question about Raspotify I'm the guy. If you have any general LInux audio question I might be able to help too. I'd like to think I know my way around ALSA fairly well.

I would describe myself as a pragmatic objectivist on a budget when it comes to my takes on audio gear and measurements.

was the hd800s a waste of money?
introduction text goes here
it's getting fluffy here
I listened to 800s once and while I think that 800/800s at their retail prices are a waste of money, I'm really looking forward to buy used HD800, even though I currently own HD650
800s like 800 have a unique spartial characteristics (cup reflections, I suppose) which make 8XX stand out from typical HP with non-angled drivers, and I don't remember such effect on mine 599 which have angled drivers too

Hello!

I'm Chris. I started playing with HiFi in my early teens, having scraped together a stereo from freebies: a pair of Pioneer 3-way speakers and a very cheap integrated amp that was being thrown away at school.
After that, I built some Visaton-based speakers which did okay, but the full-range driver I was using for >500Hz struggled at higher volumes: THD quickly rose, which made some genres difficult to listen to.

After that, I was taken in by Fostex speakers and valve amps, until I realised they only allowed me to play certain genres of music. I moved on to some Behinger B2031P monitors, which served me well at university, driven by an old QSC USA-850 amplifier.

These days, my home system consists of:
- 2x custom-built HiFi speakers for L/R. They're 2x Seas H1252-08 and 1x 18Sound NSD1095 w/XT120 horn per side. 2.5-way passive crossover at 1kHz, sealed boxes. They were borne of the idea of "what if the diaphragms were acting as pistons throughout their operating range?". They measure well, sound good, and get usefully loud. My room is very helpful, so the in-room -3dB point is around 10Hz.
- Surround speakers are SB65 drivers in small aluminium project boxes. I only use them for a subtle hint of space, having backed the AVR-calibrated level down by about 10dB.
- Amp is a Denon AVR-4100W
- Sources include Spotify direct to the AVR, a Goldring Lenco GL78 turntable, and a Fire TV stick.

I like to mess around with speakers, but these have been in place for a few years now - an impressive feat.

I also run a live sound business. I design and build my own PA speakers, and run them from Powersoft T-series amplifiers.
The main speakers are 2x Faital Pro 10FH520 and 1x 18Sound ND1460 on an RCF HF94 horn. I also have some smaller mains, which are Faital 10HX230 in 70Hz ported boxes.
Subwoofers are Faital Pro 18XL1800 in sealed boxes, with direct ventilation of the polepiece to keep the drivers cool. While sealed boxes sacrifice quite a lot of output, they allow two benefits: small cabinets, and I can choose the LF cutoff by changing the EQ within the amplifiers. The Faital drivers also have a lot of excursion by PA standards, which helps close the gap against most cabinets.
A while ago, I provided sound at a small theatre (100 seats) with three of those subwoofers. A -3dB point of 18Hz meant the giant's footsteps were felt as well as heard. Good fun. Here's a link to a thread detailing that setup: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/fun-in-a-theatre-3x-faital-18xl1800.386725/

I make my HiFi and PA systems flat and neutral, so they're genre-agnostic. In my opinion, a good audio system should work well with any program material, at any (sensible) volume.

That's all for now. I've enjoyed viewing this forum in the past, and I'm glad to join the discussion.

Chris

Thank you.

Should I combine or separate my questions into few topics?

Thank you.

Should I combine or separate my questions into few topics?
Groups of related questions in one topic would make sense - so your questions above were all about speaker measurements and/or eq. One topic for those would be fine.

But bear in mind: I'm just one random member, nothing to do with site admin. So do what feels best for you.

Hello, I'm new here!

I'm generally mostly a headphone/IEM guy as of now, and I started out just about two years ago. I've got quite a decent collection by now since I'm more interested in the technology in general and the diversity of headphone experiences than in finding the perfect sound. Still, I strongly lean towards the objectivist side of audio discussion and have frequented ASR quite often for its measurements and knowledge base.

My most-used setup is either a HD 800S (sometimes EQed) or a HD 650 driven by a JDS Atom+ stack.

Looking forward to discussing audio with you all!

Hey all!

I got into audio in my teens - Paradigm 9SE mkIII + NAD 3020 made for great party speakers, as well as being pretty decent for my first real system. That was the 90's - like half the time I went to an audio store, the demo CDs had green Sharpie around the edges. I've found myself drifting back into things lately; you can get high-quality digital sources a LOT cheaper than you used to, but new LPs are often crap and I feel bad for anyone trying to start a record collection in 2023.

Roku or Marantz 1020+Art DJ Pre II==> Yamaha HTR-6240 AVR ==> Optimus LX5 with upgraded woofers
Khadas Tone Board ==> Aiyima A07 ==> Infinity Qa

I'm currently building a set of speakers for a 5.0 bedroom system based around https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.c...uvia-seven-hd-4-metal-cone-full-range-chrome/ , pretty much ripping off this guy's design:

Hi Everyone,

I'm Alberto from Melbourne. I have a 5.0.2 system, which I primarily use for listening to stereo and surround music. My AVR is a Denon x6400h, and my speakers are the Monitor Audio Gold series. I also use an Intel NUC with Kodi as my media player.

I have joined this forum because I have recently purchased my MA Gold speakers, upgrading from the Silver series, and I am looking for a good multichannel power amp to pair up with my Denon AVR (which I don't plan to upgrade for not, but I might in the future).

I'm considering a Musical Fidelity 250.7 or a NAD M28 (which is very well reviewed in this forum). I'm also considering a custom amp made my the Tasmania-based company Kustom Dek. They use Hypex amps.

I'll post in the relevant threads for advice, and I'd like to thank you all for keeping this forum alive, and for testing hardware with scientific methods.

Alberto

Hello everyone,
I've been reading ASR over the past year and finally decided to create an account to be more engage with the community. I'm relatively new to the audio hobby and have so much to learn. I currently listen music with headphones: Hifiman Sundara and Drop HD 6XX powered with a Geshelli Erish (1st gen). My DAC is the Gustard X16.
A firm handshake and my gratitude to all the members. I truly enjoy this website!

Welcome @Lero-Ro pull up a chair... What's your poison? :)

Hi all, my name is Gerard and I want to introduce myself.

I joined just because I want to expand my knowledge about measuring at amps myself.
I also joined at a few other audio related forums.

Wanting to measure more than using a basic oscilloscope, I bought an old HP 8903 a few years ago, and depending on time, health and life in between, I may try to hookup a focusrite USB interface I have for measuring to the computer.

As a hobby, I restore old seventies amplifiers and receivers, but in practice, I am also some kind of "old electronic parts hoarder".

Age 65, partly retired, I work 3 days a week at a very small local circuit card producing company (12 people), doing assembly work, setting up little testing rigs and doing repairs of rejects.

Hello everybody, Artur here from Paris, audio enthusiast (I’m into mixing, audio editing, audiophile things etc) and a nice guy all around (ha!). I joined your community because I feel I can find a lot of precious informations regarding headphones :) see you soon then! Artur
