Welcome New Members to ASR, introduce yourself here.

Hi! I'm a professional composer and bassoonist, with a keen interest in audio topics in general and recorded music playback in particular. No wonder I found my way here, right? I've lurked for a long time, and finally decided to register mostly so I can tell you all how much I appreciate this site. The reviews and thoughtful discussion have really helped me hone my own thinking about audio, which has been developing steadily over a few decades. Cutting through the woo and nonsense: that's never a waste of time, it seems to me...we all know how badly the audiophile consumer world is bespattered with excrement.

Stuff I thinking about right now:

* I own a Musical Concepts-modded Halfler DH-500 amplifier, which I do love despite its somewhat noisy fan, but I've been contemplating a DIY stereo amplifier kit, some class-D one with that crazy great SINAD I've read about. You know, for fun. I've built my own personal computers for a couple decades, and have some nominal skill at soldering and basic electronics, so I think I could make it happen. And, after all, my beloved Hafler was originally a kit, right?

* An external DAC to pull together/unify/EQ the various signal sources I use, including a SACD player. For the latter, yeah, I guess I'm looking for one with DSD capability and HDMI input. The choices are so limited! Limited to literally one, it seems, the Bryston DMA-3 which to me seems overpriced. Some doodads extract audio from HDMI, so maybe that's the direction?

Anyway, thanks again for the great forums. I've learned a lot here!
Welcome to AR @Composer&Audio Geek :D I suspect you will fit in here very well. :D

Have you checked out @boXem | audio or @Audiophonics? Both frequent this forum and some of their amps have been tested here.

Hello,

Our in-house amplifier based on the 1ET7040SA is under development.
We are developing a special dedicated power supply, to take advantage of 100% power, regardless of the Ohm load.

But unfortunately no release date yet.

Good day (night) to all! My name is Oleg! I'm a do-it-yourselfer from Russia! I love music and create my own loudspeakers. I see that this is a very large forum and I see a lot of knowledgeable people! I hope I will be useful over time and see a lot of useful information for myself! Thank you!

Привет, добро пожаловать в ASR.:)

Итак... есть фото творений? хотелось бы увидеть некоторые из ваших сборок.

I'm a longtime (since early 80s) budget-fi enthusiast, now with significant hearing damage. I have digital and FM headphone listening stations consisting of older and current model equipment. Nothing fancy, but it works with my wonky hearing. Budget-fi has certainly come a long way during the past 12+ years when I wasn't paying much attention.

Retired teacher. Amateur natural trumpeter. Head-Fi refugee.

Looking forward to reading reviews and learning from the informed discussion.

After about 1.5 years of lurking around here it is time to register.
Found the site only around x-mas 2020 when I was looking for a decent DAC for my streaming setup. Went with a Topping E30 because better is not required for listening.

I am a DIY guy (except for digital gear) and have been building loudspeakers (on and off) for the past 30 years. I have also designed and built all my analog audio H/W myself (i.e. phono-pre, pre, power amps, HP amp) over the last 10 years.

But I was never able to sufficiently measure my electronics because the ADC and DAC in my soundcard were not good enough and I cannot afford an AP system :D
Ivan's E1DA Cosmos gear should put this aspect to bed nicely now as well.

I like when circuits are cooked to the point in terms of performance although I tend to always do a dash more than required if there is a low hanging fruit. But I also enjoy seeing here what is technically possible.

I don't care for tubes/valves and what I call "hifi romatic" in general.

All of my own creations are utilizing balanced signal transmission (except for the mm phono-pre input).

I see no reason for streaming hi-res audio and have no sympathy for MQA. Actually, I don't even have any music subscription and my good old CD player has not been retired, yet. Playing vinyl is just for fun.

Cheers

Hi, my name is Russ, and I'm a recovering audiophool. My last snake oil was about 18 years ago: it was a CD marker... Fortunately never had enough money to buy the cables, power supplies or conditioners. I wish ASR had existed 25 years ago! This site is right up my alley! Formerly a geologist for about 2 years. Realized I hated it and have been in IT for the past 20 years.
