Weed thread, what do you vaporize / smoke?

I used to smoke the cheapest they had, Big Tree, slogan is America's cannabis. Cheap but strong, THC around 30% But I recently discovered this infused stuff, Stiizy 40's. Amazeballs:

Delivered to my door for 40 bucks a quarter, not bad. This infusion business kicks the THC to 40% and over, CBD is quite high as well. Wallops like a mule, with that extra finishing punch.

I adore this stuff, tastes ultra fantastic as well. Best weed I've ever had, and it's been just over 30 years for me.

I want to clarify that it's illegal in France, and therefore it fuels a drug trade, with gangs becoming victims because they end up killing each other, and a lot of dirty money that needs laundering. So I'm in favor of controlled legalization, like in some European countries.

That said, even though I smoked a lot at one point, I'm convinced that for a small number of people with a predisposition to mental health issues, it can turn into addiction and dangerous psychoses. I have specific examples of this in my own circle: loss of bearings, hallucinations, and ultimately suffering—it's an illness.

Of course, I'm not forbidding anyone from smoking; it's enjoyable, and there's a whole culture surrounding it. But you have to be aware of the dangers.
There are studies on impact on psychosys. Spoiler - none, what you witnessed was most likely pre existing.

The students were high on syrup, so they were only superficially attentive.
Damn. My school attendance would have been exemplary with that stuff.

WTF. There'd be a hella lot of folks claiming they had an ongoing tickley cough too, I'd bet.

Love it.

We learned \/these\/ to be "Filtering Erlenmeyer flasks" and every HS chemistry class had dozens of them.
PyrexFEF.jpg

Later in early years of college, we also learned that "Terrible Bong Odor" was a rug's worst nightmare!
...
If "necessity is the mother [...and laziness is the father] of invention"; TBO needed an Erlenmeyer solution:
...
A \/glass stem\/ had to be designed, once the 1000mL flask size was determined to be of the correct volume (so as to not blow anyone's lung's out);
201111_BongBucketStemDesign6.jpg

The hardest part of the design was attempting to drill straight 15mm hole thru the silicone stoppers.
...
With the add-on \/ash catchers (etc.)\/, this design had become a smash hit, when used for "single rip" hits
BongBucketLoaded.JPG

Over the decades, I had made over a few dozen for friends and relatives and most are still in use.
For road-trips, a \/bucket\/ would be used for clandestine storage/use.

A few years ago, I stopped smoking and gave away my personal, well-traveled, 18 year-old BongBucket.

That's what I'm explaining: it's a pre-existing condition in some people, but smoking cannabis in large quantities exacerbates these underlying symptoms.

This isn't a moral judgment, but a statement of clinical fact.

Altering brain function isn't harmless. If it's for "balanced" individuals, then why not, but for those developing a mental illness, it's a different story. The paradox is that it provides temporary relief while the substance takes effect, but then come the persistent hallucinations and an endless cycle of addiction.

So, recreational cannabis, why not? Everyone is free to choose, but there isn't enough prevention and information available.

With drugs it is all about the risk/reward ratio.

Cannabis, especially if vaped instead of smoked, has less risk than any of the other established major drugs (alcohol, nicotine, cocaine, amphetamines, MDMA, opiods, benzodiazepines). It is non-toxic, physical dependency is at most at the level of caffeine (i.e. a few of days of feeling off), psychological dependency is low (though it undoubtedly exists), and it does not lead to violence or much risk taking. The risk of triggering latent psychosis is real but very small.

If somebody were to pick, as an example, either cannabis or alcohol at their sole drug then cannabis is the much safer choice.

(Due to prohibition in most of the world there are also the legal risks, which have nothing to do with the substance itself.)

Well stated @Alexander Gödde. I stopped smoking cannabis maybe ~year ago I guess it is now. It simply makes me cough terribly. I can inhale the most potent flower, hashish, moon rocks, honey oil and kish available and eat ~$30 of THC chocolate etc and it does not even phase me one little bit now. So I decided enough and I am not even bothering to do the coughing fits stuff now. I can have a hoot but it just is not doing anything and is not worth the coughing stuff.

I vape with systems that allow me to use low voltage - otherwise I cough. At home I have a water bong with attachments that allow me to do flower or vape cartridge - super smooth. Otherwise -like you- I'd cough too much these days.

I believe (but I can't find it again) that there was a study done in New Zealand on a population of 10,000 young people between the ages of 16 and 25 who regularly smoked cannabis; about 10% developed underlying psychological problems.

Now I know that hallucinogens have been used throughout history and in all forms; you only need to read the 1924 book *Phantastica* by Louis Lewin, a professor at the University of Berlin.

Although I have enjoyed the substance in question, I must say that I now consider it a poison for the brain, just like alcohol. It's the line between the obvious pleasure one can derive from it and the point at which it transforms into addiction and illness.

That said, I am in favor of its legalization, to avoid the consequences of prohibition, like here in France where the news is dominated by gang wars and the victims that come with them. Because it's a lucrative business.

I am much more sensitive to various stuff now at my increased age. I get coughing fits from stuff resulting in terrible fuzzy vision, sparkling grey fuzz sparkle vision like a old CRT TV screen with all the grey and white random rapidly moving dots and dizzy and need to sit for that or I am going to get hurt. I bought a 30 pack of 3M specially designed for glasses fog free face N95 face mask filters and I also bought an actual silicon respirator face mask with P100 rated, HEPA, asbestos and lead capable filtering that actually eliminates odors too because it filters so good. It rained awhile ago one day here which is super rare where I live and the humidity made the mouse droppings behind the fridge smell. I went to investigate and it was terrible. So I swept, vacuumed and did all that with citrus cleaner sprayed all over it and I still inhaled it. I thought I had a horrible lung and throat infection because I was coughing terribly. I was feeling horrifically horrible and my voice sounded totally like a robot electronic voice that hurt a lot. I went to the doctor and it was an allergic reaction. I simply can't deal with it anymore and it's silly to even try now. I like the way flower makes music so enjoyable and I have barely listened to any music for the last ~year since I stopped smoking flower. As a side benefit I have substantially more expendable cash for toys, clothes, shoes, kitchen wares and all sorts of cool stuff I find on Amazon. I have bought a buttload of new gear from Amazon over the last year.

I can state with total ease and confidence that all my various doctors are totally ecstatic and overjoyed more than I am that I stopped smoking flower and that I have not quit drinking alcohol but I never have time to even think about it. My blood pressure is like 120/80, I lost 62 pounds and I have all this extra cash now.

Since unfortunately weed is to a very large degree a political topic when discussed in society, one will be able to find studies that claim pretty much what the donors funding the study want it to say. Not different from several other topics. :-)

Personally, since studies on the matter seem inevitably politically biased, I have made decisions based on my personal experience... and I have been curious here and there. And I have never developed dependencies, plus I think my brain has functioned satisfactorily "despite" the fact I have smoked weed (and tried many other things) for a very long time.

It's about staying on top of things and not getting sloppy. You can overdo both weed and alcohol with embarassing results. A glass or two of champagne make one pleasurably tipsy and even witty (by reducing inhibition to a healthy level in some people), two bottles make one the sloppy party drunk. Not different with weed.

And with moderation, it can even be put to good use. During the day, if I am angry or frustrated or stuck, a puff or two of sativa make me realize I should keep taking things with good humor. It's sometimes even helpful for creativity, I have written very elegant software while puffing a little sativa (I just have to remind myself to write good comments :-D). Note I am not claiming the same works for others, though.

For some, the 'pot scene' (aka Stoners) becomes a cultural (counterculture) identity. As with many causes and hobbies, people enjoy connecting w/like 'minded' people: Football? Yoga? ComicCom? Gamers? Bars? SkinHeads? Surfers? Audiophiles?
But, I did not come here for that!
I had always thought that the meaning "OG" meant 'Outdoor Grown'.
I asked GeminiAI:
  • Outdoor Grown (your interpretation)
  • Ocean Grown (coastal California)
  • Original Gangster (slang for authentic)
  • OverGrown.com (the forum)
This article https://www.hiiimag.com/articles/og-kush states otherwise:
...But in the original circle, the fellas maintain that it was simply called OG because it was the true original, and was dubbed so by Kenji Fujishima and crew...
Article tells a good historical story (starting in early 1990s, in Florida) and shows how an AI can be not correct:

That's never been the case for me. I was always curious about whether something would augment my mind or not, and tried many things. Weed was legal (or legally ignored in small quantities) where I did it, so there was never a counter culture identity to it, it was a "so what?". Zero bad boy against the establishment behind it.

In high school, if you did not want to hang with the jocks, preppies, nerds, artsies, populars, or loners; the stoners always had the best music!:D

This was an  moment for me:
Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS)
Where, young adults (on hi-potency THC) experience nausea w/cyclical vomiting, and/or severe stomach pain... more severe than binge drinking.
ER visits (for CHS), during '20 Covid lockdown years, spiked 8-fold, w/mis-diagnosis said to have cost $76,920 per patient.

As far as I know, "OG" stands for "original gangster" as in a founding / early / senior member of a street gang. The term has evolved that now people just use "OG" to mean "original", but in a trendy way?

A buddy of mine was a heavy user for a while and ended up getting this. Not fun from what he says. It was years ago and he still will have a puff on rare occasions, but is pretty tentative about it.

Unrelated to either of the above, anyone have a good solution for the munchies? (not like, what foods to eat, but how to prevent?) The only thing I've noticed is THC-V tends to reduce rather than enhance appetite, but at this point, a puff or two of normal stuff turns me into a snack-destroying robot. If I want to lose any weight I'll need to quit entirely.

I had to check with my AI to make sure I was not hallucinating:
Yes, eating nuts can suppress appetite.
Research indicates that consuming nuts, particularly almonds and peanuts, is associated with reduced hunger and increased feelings of fullness, leading to a natural reduction in calorie intake later in the day.
For me, peanuts do it...
