Watches! What do y'all have on your wrists?

I'm in Canada too though. All the ones I have were ordered from Amazon...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not disputing your experience at all. Just wondering why we'd be having such different experiences. Unless of course you do have an 8" or larger wrist or something which would explain it.

It's almost monobrand, I know...

Old Eco-Drive below works like a charm from 1987. ;)

i love the looks of the Submariner but abandoned my thoughts of buying one after I found out the lead time last year. At my age no way I'm waiting for over a year for any freaking watch. As I've said earlier I looked at lots of other dive watches but thought if I was going to buy another watch why get a third diver.

I have an Omega Seamaster 14700 from the 1960's (inherited from my grandfather) but i never wear it, because i hate watches arround my wrist. I have an iphone that tells me how late it is, that does the job perfect...

But i still keep the watch, it's an heritage and it's nice to look at also.

I have had a couple of decent but not extravagant watches and my favorite was the simple and not too formal Seiko that I bought in the mid 1980s for ~$450. I knew the jeweler and he gave me a discount and said that the Seiko was the best watch he had in the store for the money and was the nicest looking watch for the money too. It was difficult to not look at the Seiko's watch face and admire it.

Then in the past ~2 years here at ASR I saw the Omega watches. WoW! The Omega watches that I have seen here at ASR are always so simple but classic, so clean and beautiful, so qualitative and perfect and I can only imagine they are the same inside too. I like the Omega watches because they are not gaudy and they exude refinement. If I where to get a nice watch more than my Casio which I really love it would probably be a Omega.
The very best watch for the money I could find that has a strap that fits my wrist. (Most all plastic/rubber watches in Canada now have short straps.)

The Omega watches that are so appealing to me.

Platinum dial from Venice. Stock image as I could not do the dial justice.
Sweet! Venezianico has been putting out a lot of very nice designs. I like their diver with a mother-of-peal dial, but I just have too many other watches to be adding yet another ...

Full lume dial? We need a lume pic! :)

most likely 'marketing'
IMO, there's nothing wrong with Rolex (I inherited my dad's stainless steel Oyster Perpetual Date). My understanding is that the movement is a decent, workmanlike thing. My least favorite part is the clasp, which is perfectly fine, but seems like any number of metal stampings that I've seen before. Kind of wish he had skipped the date feature, and gotten an Explorer I (or a Milgauss!) but that's just me. When he purchased it in the 1970s, I think it was a <800 USD watch. Rolex is tops in brand recognition, which can be a good or bad thing, depending on your point of view.

Rolex are very well made indeed. The reason why I haven't bought one for myself is because (a) I prefer larger watches (46mm+) and Rolex doesn't do that (b) I prefer more niche brands that cater to that 46mm+ requirement... :)

I do have far more expensive watches, but this Glycine is one of my favorites, well designed, quality craftsmanship, 48mm and -of course- a mechanical movement (old trusty 2824). They are hard to find, but if you do find a clean 2nd hand one, they are less than $1k. The smaller versions are far easier to find.

PS: Weird how now photos come in rotated.

Snoopy Timex.jpg

I've been pondering this Snoopy Timex automatic for some time. Not as any sort of statement about status, I just thought it might be the sort of thing to put smiles on people's faces. Possible downside is that copyrights on the Peanuts characters must have lapsed, because they're appearing everywhere, with varying degrees of quality.
