I dispute that! The Citizen Eco Drive (= solar powered) movements are a pinnacle of the art of modern engineering. IMO they count as horology just as much as the movements that deliberately stick to 19th century technology. (And I say this as an owner of many watches with those 19th-century tech movements ...)
Not a piece of art in the sense of industrial design. I'm familiar with Citizen watches and the Eco Drive thing was part of my decision. I know they have a good reputation for reliability. I actually like the utilitarian simplicity of the design though. I wanted a watch that looked like a simple time keeping instrument rather than a piece of jewelry or a multi-function device. My father in law was an industrial designer and I think he'd agree with me about the way this looks.
The only thing missing for me is that I find knowing the month & day to be occasionally handy (since I unfortunately don't get a daily paper newspaper anymore)
I searched about for a digital watch with the day and date and most importantly a long enough watch strap to go around my wrist as most watches these days are made for Asian wrists and are too small. This is a great deal for the money. It has a 10 year battery!
I host my images on my own website, for which I pay actual money to have hosted. I don't have to worry about any of the free-service BS.
That's interesting, as some time back (maybe even before they upgraded the forum software) any time an externally image was posted, there was a warning and a link was inserted.
This a extended strap length model with 10 year battery. Been wearing one for some time and it's been great.
All Casio and Timex that I have bought for the last ~3-4 years all have very short straps and so they all went back to the store for refund. I never had this strap issue until recent years. Even buying a strap from a strap website is now tedious because the straps are all too short. The only strap at a dedicated strap website that was a little longer and still barely long enough was a ugly NATO strap.
I can only guess they are importing watches designed for the Asian market into Canada. Canada has major Asian influence both in population and product. Like I said this issue never existed until recently. I used to just buy any Ironman or whatever watch and toss it on my wrist and voila it fit good. All watches I bought in the past like I said ~4 years the strap could not even fit into the little strap holder thingy on the watch strap because I was using the very last hole or not at all. Stupid situation. I have to be very careful what I buy now because I searched high and low for days to find a watch with a long enough strap or a strap to buy and then fit onto the watch and it was tedious time wasting stuff. and.... to make matters worse... I bought 2 different Timex Ironman watches and within 2-3 months the silicon straps on both had torn across the strap and the strap useless. I only wear them to ride the bus and go grocery shopping so no abuse in any way shape or form. Times does not warranty straps and does not sell straps even if it lists them at the Timex website as available. So I was stuck with 2, $100 Timex Ironman watch bodies with ripped straps and no replacement straps. I web searched high and low for straps. Searched for a telephone number and filed warranty claims. Timex said I would need to send the watches to Japan and then they would sit for months while the warranty claims amounted to a significant amount to then be sent to I think Malaysia or some such country to be assessed and that would require another ~30 days and then another ~30 days to decide the claim and maybe send me a new replacement watch that would probably not be the original model that I sent in. I saw the writing on the wall = RUNAROUND! So I measured my wrist with a sewing tape measure. Like I said the only strap that was long enough was the NATO strap and that strap lasted about 6 months and then was all tattered and horrible looking. Stupid situation for sure. So when I found this Casio with the extended strap I jumped on it and it is a fantastic watch. Heavy duty double clasp strap and 10 year battery. I am going to buy a extra one to put in the drawer for later use. Timex annoyed me so much by wasting hours of my time on the telephone and in emails and with the ridiculous strap length that they will never get my business again and that's coming from a Ironman watch wearer of decades and buying a watch or 2 per year. I was looking at glow in the dark radiation emitting watches and even those $450+ watches the metal straps where all too short and they are built in Asia and sold in the USA on web sites. I emailed and they said they will find extra links and include them in the order but no guarantees because they might not have extra links when I buy a watch. Absurd. So the issue is wide spread and I have experienced it in multiple brands with multiple companies. That's the new globalism and product sent around the world intended for an Asian market.
