Was this aimed at ASR?

In my line of work, I have heard a lot about "automatic" audio tuning systems that will automagically EQ all the speakers in a room or a vehicle to sound "perfect" (ha), and there's no need for a human designer or even a physical prototype. But the inescapable reality is that after design by autopilot has done its thing, someone's still got to put ears on it and decide whether it sounds good.

And ... if one measured at a somewhat different position (especially in a car) from where one actually listens the EQ will still be 'off' from the desired target.
Such is the difficulty with acoustic measurements.
Nitpickers would even say that one's presence in the car would influence the sound compared to the used 'microphone' that was used even when it was a HATS.

There are ever the nitpickers, and I should know. But I was hinting more at the political issue in many companies that produce a product dependent on the outcome of an audio tuning process - eventually one person's head is on the line if the product stinks, and if you are a manager who eliminates that person in favor of an automated system whose results may be fairly consistent but not universally satisfactory, then those consequences of a poorly rated product come down on the next person who's up the chain, which is probably you.

Haha but no. I said one hand scrolling past this conversation, the other hand scratching one's head. What's going on in your head then?

Now it crossed my mind to make the other reference, but I thought no, absolutely not. Perhaps we are picking up the homeopathic residue.

I accept this. Plausible deniability. The left hand knoweth not what the right hand doeth.
