Good morning everyone. So, I will have some equipment hooked up to a newly in stalled 12/2 AC wire in the basement where was no plug for power. I have the face plate already. I was wondering what AC receptacle you all recommended? I can go stupid crazy with buy one but, in reality I want one an above a hospital grade plug. Also am looking at protecting the equipment am using plugged into it. My soldering station and my hot air gun station and my Clio Pocket #3 program and my newer lab top computer. I want to protect my investment. So what do you all recommend? Is there a better brand than others? I can go to best buy and buy their brand of protection products but, is it like bigger brands? Please let me know what you all think? Thanks Jeff

A UL listed outlet is all that's needed. Hospital grade outlets basically have higher pullout force so corded equipment is less likely to be accidentally unplugged.

If you want to protect your equipment the cheapest and easiest way is to unplug it when not being used or have it plugged into a commercial grade power strip with an on/off switch

Or use a good UPS - Uninterruptible Power Supply - this will protect equipment from spikes if power goes out and provide power that can let you shut things down in an organized fashion. The laptop doesn't really need this - it is protected by its external power supply and its internal battery, but it is certainly a good idea for stereo equipment and directly powered computer equipment.
Of course, everything is essentially a computer these days... I'd not plug the soldering station and hot air gun station into this. They are very robust.

Name brand, authentic (as opposed to lookalikes/counterfeits are a good way to go. I.e., please don't buy questionable duplex outlets from skeevy websites.

FWIW: my hifi outlets :) They probably cost a little more than "standard goods", but against the whole cost of construction of the house, decidedly in the category of budget dust*. ;)

____________
* This was a colloquial term employed by a certain very large Pfarmaceutical Company by which I was once employed for expenditures that were so trivial they weren't worth worrying about. At the time, the threshold for budget dust in my realm appeared to be well into five figures.:eek:

Thanks everyone for your advise and helpful suggestions and comments. Sometimes we all need a little advice on things that are not an everyday occurrence or conversation.

So here’s the update. I installed a Leviton GIFI (UL licensed plug) and am calling it done. Here is a picture of it. I appreciate you all chiming in and helping me save money again. . There is so much hype around Audiophile AC receptacle plugs and filtering products on the market. It can drive a person batty. So, This is why I enjoy this forum and this is my go to forum as I stumbled upon it a few years ago. Am glade I did. Has saved me a lot of money and am an over thinker so again thanks to Amirm again and again for testing and exposing the truth about Audio products and what they clam to be or do. Be safe. Be Blessed. Jeff
