I have just purchased one of these, will arrive in a couple weeks. I shall be using it for essential and accurate audio level monitoring purposes.... OK I lie, I'm just a shameless sucker for flashing lights.

Who makes it?

A guy called Saulius in Lithuania:

https://vumeter.weebly.com/

and this is his eBay shop:

He also does a blue one:

...and an analogue type meter:

I actually bought mine secondhand from a user on eBay, but I had emailed Saulius before with some questions. He also sells the parts and DIY kits, and has some more videos here:

I know you are thinking this would look pretty nice next to your RME ADI-2 Pro :)

I'm mystified as to how it works.

I would have expected RCA-IN and RCA-OUT, to be stuck between a preamp and power amp.

But I only see RCA IN. How is this used? With a tape loop?

I like the analog version, believe the led's would be extremely distracting.
But $160 would buy me a once or two of good weed and really improve the sound of my kit. :)

Toys, all of them...

I have 3 Sony TAN-77es power amps here...

And a nice big Denon and a Yamaha and Lux all with quite impressive meters. Maybe I should stack them up and take a pic?

It's a meter so does not need an output; it just measures (monitors) the voltage it sees. You just need to tap into the signal line someplace. Yes, a splitter to send the signal to this should work fine.

Looks like you have an issue with channel balance. ?

There's left/right gain dials on the back of the VU unit... one had got nudged and i hadn't noticed... thanks for pointing out.

I've seen some kool meters in my time but this new Audio Research amp is totally kick ass!
Gives new meaning to a "transparent" amp. LOL

An old thread but I just ran across this McIntosh tonight that I hadn't seen before.
What an awesome looking piece (pieces) to have for your HiFi shrine.
If I had these upfront I'm sure every time I turned them on even a 80 year old 78 shellac would sound like a 352.8 kHz/24bit 2 mike audiophile recording. (at least to me). Expectation Bias can be a great thing! :p

Anthem's new electronics have some pretty cool VU meters. They're mesmerizing in use:

I always liked the original Squeezebox VU meters too:

I'd love to see and hear one of these:
