Hi there, I'm looking for something to control the volume on my my passive and active speakers, as well as a sub out, something like the behringer fbq1502hd. My avr doesn't have line out, only pre outs, so the volume won't control my active JBL studio monitors, only the passive speakers. I wondered if: 1. it's for PA, so would it be okay for HiFi? Noisy at all? And 2. Might the 25hz high pass protection also not be a steep enough cutoff and reduce my 30-35hz subwoofer response?

Does anyone know of something with a crossover for a sub, subsonic highpass filter (I could maybe EQ it using my PC instead?), and 2 channel volume control? Or is this behringer the best it'll get for the price?

Emphasis is mine; if your AVR has pre-out, it can control active speakers ... Can you tell us which AVR? We can guide from there...

Peace.

I mean that the AVR volume knob won’t control pre outs. Only the passive speakers hooked up to it. The active speakers have individual volume knobs but they’re on the back - i’m looking for a physical knob I can turn like on the FBQ1502HD that’s a lot easier

Edit: It’s a yamaha rx-v361, there are 2 pre outs - dvr and something else iirc

FYI: This receiver has MD / CD-R Record (i.e., Tape Out) outputs. Those are designed to feed the input signal to an external device for recording, not for listening. As such, they are not volume controlled (as noted by the OP).

You are trying to retro-fit modern EQ in front of a very old amplifier. The Behringer device will work; but it's EQ will not be as good as from more modern DACs.

One option would be to consider just replacing your Yamaha with a WiiM Amp, perhaps waiting for the new WiiM Amp Pro to be released. Or, picking up any used AVR or stereo receiver that has proper pre-outs; though they are not likely to have great EQ capabilities.

Another option, though a bit more expensive, would be to pick up a WiiM Ultra which will provide the functionality you requested. But it will also add in a modern network streamer with state-of-the-art DSP/DAC and a 10-band EQ with delay configuration for the subwoofer out.

The WiiM amp and Ultra are wayyy out of my budget. The EQ itself doesn't need to be good at all. Literally just enough to pull a little of the low end off of my speakers and crossover the subwoofer at 80hz. My biggest worry would be the 25hz high pass on everything, which if it isn't a super steep curve, might take some of the 30-35hz content away.

If I were to go the DSP route, which could definitely suffice, could a thomann t.racks DSP 4x4 mini do the trick? That way I can high/low pass the subwoofer how I want it. I'm already getting a t.amp e400 to power it, so another thomann product wouldn't hurt. It got a decent review here. Their software is just on Windows so my PC can just change each channel's volume.
