Vintage Audio Advertising

Vox began with tubes and Dick Denny, the man who designed the Vox AC30 amp, favored a rich midrange tone. When the company transitioned into solid state (as shown above) in 1967 it found itself facing the tube powered Marshall amps favored by Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. Marshall’s success buried Vox, which changed ownership a number of times over the years. The AC30 has remained in production since its inception in 1960. It is regarded as a classic and can be heard on many famous recordings throughout the history of rock music. Jimi Hendrix used an AC30 for all of the electric guitar work heard on All Along the Watchtower.

Must say, the internet can sometimes be wonderful. By pure chance I landed on a discussion about vintage Empire speakers and that led me to other vintage discussions, and eventually to vintage audio advertising. Some of the ads are downright comical, at least I thought so. Lots of posing women who flock to the audiophile man... probably for Playboy or similar mags? Showing one below which may tickle your funny bone, as well as another add for Hitachi that actually tried to advertise measurements! I think the Hitachi one might be from the 80s. If you have pictures of fun or interesting vintage audio advertising please share.

Hehe, in the first post. An ad for a Hitachi HMA-6500 power amp. I bought one of those a few months ago. It was unnecessary, since I don't really need an extra amp, but the price was good and it has VU meters, so I went ahead and bought it. It works flawlessly. :)

Temporarily set up; unfortunately, a slightly blurry photo:

Not mine, better photo:

By the way, I can't hear any difference between Hitachi HMA-6500 and a Douk Audio A5. Whatever that implies. :)

I'm posting a few Hitachi ads. I don't know if they've already appeared in the thread, but in any case, here they are:

Hitachinaka was probably our least-favorite stop on our Japan cruise a couple years back. Started out as a factory town, Hitachi is still a major player there.
