I am pretty sure that MX was a clever ploy to rebrand Magnavox* for a new generation who associated the brand with big stereo consoles their parents (or their parents' upper-middle class friends, in my case) owned. In fairness, the Magnavox consoles of the early 1960s are pretty nice, at least electronically. One of the weirder bits of intel from my formative hifi years: John Dorsey, owner of Soundscape, a popular audio purveyor in Baltimore, had in his home a big ol' vintage (even then) Magnavox console.

I've got one in the basement.

By the end of the 1970s, there were some arcane/abstruse amalgamation, at least in the US, of Maggotbox's Magnavox's audio business with Philips'.





Most if not all of the stuff above was Dutch, though.

but, e.g., the Philips-branded receivers, I think, had some Maggotbox blood in them(?).
