I have most of the Allied catalogs from the late 1950s up through the "Allied Radio Shack" catalog of 1971.

I remember the one I had years ago had a picture of their building. Looked it up on Google Maps; the building is still there, looks exactly the same, except for the Popeye's Chicken right where the artist must have stood to sketch it.

Heh. I'd love to have one of those. Whoda thunk it, right?

A funny thing with radios. The simpler the radio, the higher the cost on the 'collector' market! Check the price for the Span Master, or the lower end superregenerative radio kits Allied was selling in those days. Crystal radios are, at least on a parts count or performance basis, even worse!


Sort of on topic -- I do have one of these little superregenerative kit radios -- which I built as a teenager. Still works fine -- at least the last time I ignited it (probably two-plus decades ago ).
