Jeepers, the console in the foreground of that Sylvania ad has a Garrard SL95 in it! That was a pretty high-end record player of its time. :oops:

It would have to be more modern for it to visually meet my definition of "hideous furniture" (at least until it started attempting to play music [at which point I would likely be wanting ear plugs]).
 
I really like these systems that looked like a nice piece of furniture rather than the disparate boxes we now have. Maybe US homes being larger than European, suited these systems better, but nevertheless, they look nice.

You could buy the pieces, then stick them in a Barzilay console.
