I am looking to buy a decent stereo setup for music.
My kitchen/living room is a continuous long thin rectangle. Dimensions are 5m by 20m with a sloping roof across the 5m width (low end 2m, high end 4m).
The whole room is stone walled and half the room is wooden floored and the other half is tile. A few (4) medium windows on the lowside wall.
My budget is about 2000 euros. I was thinking of Triangle Borea BR09 speakers powered by a Marantz Stereo 70S amp setup at the far end of the room.
Is this a good idea? Any thoughts?

It’s not so much the size of the room but how far away you are sitting from the loudspeakers.

Ruff,

You may want to use 2 sets of speakers. This way you can decide to listen music in one part of the room or in the whole room and have the same listening confort everywhere in the room.

Distance to speakers will vary depending on where I am sitting.
I think the two sets of speakers might be a good idea. I could set the second set half way across the length of the room to feed the kitchen area while cooking/eating and the first set at the far end to feed the sitting room area.

14m away probably won't be awesome both with regards to capacity and stereo perspective. Perhaps find a part of the living room you can use for more dedicated listening ( assume there's a lounge/sofa area somewhere with a TV perhaps) where you can sit closer, and then spread some Sonos speakers across the rest of the area to use for background listening.

Yes, I will rethink the setup to include a dedicated listening area at 4m away with a nice system, and maybe a separate small system for the kitchen area with a Wiim amp and some wall mounted speakers

NO to multiple speakers except for background music/noise. You will have timing and echo issues.

I have 4x 16 channel amps running as many Mission in ceiling 8" speakers for background but for listening, a dedicated pair (2 actually in 2 physically separated rooms).

I think they mean to run the speaker sets one at a time and not all together.
Anyway, I have already decided to have two different systems. One for hifi listening when seated in the living room at about 4m distant, and a budget one for listening in the kitchen/dining area. I am thinking of the Wiim amp with wall mounted Dali Spektors for the kitchen

In essence:
  • 5m by 20m with a sloping roof across the 5m width (low end 2m, high end 4m
  • The whole room is stone walled
  • (4) medium windows on the lowside wall

Judging from the info you gave, it could be a disaster.
Before you fixate on any 'solution' please do a test. Have someone stand and talk (male/female) at your proposed speaker location and listen at various distances. You may find that the voice is unintelligible/echoey/boomy even couple meters away. A 'regular' speaker would behave almost the same as a human voice.

To cover all the listening distances, you probably need an unorthodox solution. For example a JBL 100LA + sub(s).

I will try that. Thanks

I would start here to get an idea of some good speakers in your price range: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...-recommendations-for-usa-by-sweetchaos.28296/

That list provides links to the reviews with measurement data, upon which the rankings are based. The passive tower speaker recomendations are based on U.S. price and U.S. availability. Your prices and availability may vary. The Revel F35 may be hard to find. It has been replaced by a more expensive model. The Polk R500 currently is on sale in the U.S. and would fit in your budget. I'm not sure if it is on sale in Europe.

As far as the Triangle Borea BR09, I have not seen test data for that. Erin's Audio Corner testted the BR03, and it did not measure all that great - link below to the review.

The distance from the wall will be dependent on the bass contour of the speakers. If the bass is flat, you probably should pull them out away from the wall. 1m/3ft is a good starting point. Listen, then adjust the distance and listen again. Repeat until you find the sweet spot. If the speakers have a bass shelf, they probably should be closer to the wall.

With regard to the Marantz Stereo 70S, it is a beautiful unit, but it is a little pricey. There are less pricey options, but they won't look as nice.
