Velodyne MiniVee 8" subwoofer bad hum

I bought my Velodyne in the late 90s. After about 5 years it developed a hum. I took into a local dealer that was an authorized Velodyne repair center. They replaced the plate amplifier. I haven't had any issues since, and it has been over 20 years.

However, I used to leave the amplifier on continually, and I live in FL where we get a lot of lightening strikes. Now I have it on a WiFi enabled switch and I only turn it on when I am listening to music. Also, I now have much beefier surge protection at my breaker panels.
The hum was very noticeable before the repair, now not so much so. I'm sensitive to the low hum/buzz but I'm getting used to it since I've found a use for it and I don't really notice anything when music is playing. This tech works on everything and has a fair share of good reviews, but I don't think he's an authorized repairman for Velodyne.

I stopped using it.

It is reasonable for one to think that the use of a machine intended for home, in a car, caused irreparable damage.

I was under the impression the technician changed a lot of parts. Anyway, I sold it.
