I wonder if the filament current is a bit much for that laptop.

The design uses a couple of LEDs to mimic filament glow. It makes me want to put a cheap solid-state amp in a black box with an on-off switch with a bunch of dummy tubes and fake transformers on top of the box.

That could be so much fun! “Tubes” that randomly flicker and go out, proximity sensors to turn them back on when the listener approaches, coupled with slight audio changes.

I built one. Changed the tube to a 12AU7 instead of the original ECC-82. My DSD512 files have never sounded better. Warmth, vastly improved sound stage; you feel like you are there. I'm selling all my SanDisk USB drives.

Just imagine how good a whole vacuum tube computer would sound! Here's one to try:

The OP is just trolling in his title... the article has nothing to do with sound at all.
The OP was just joking around, I hope that is ok!

Using a 300B tube would make sense in this application since the filament is 5V. You'd have to run it through a powered USB hub though to get enough current.

You should ask those folks who didnt read the article and taking things seriously....

They saw the word tube and assumed that it has got to do with audio when it isnt the case...
