Using TV as center channel speaker ?

Here's another of Troy's home theater builds
There's a problem there: the screen is too high (unless the seats behind it are raised...).

Indeed, I've been torn between a 55 and 65" size. Question: What's you screen size and viewing distance?

Which are your main and center speakers?
I was referring to OP's 100in TV.

I have a 65in 10ft away, although we'll probably go to 75in bc our TCL is acting up.

I have Polk Reserve R200's (before the update) on 28in stands, an R350 center, two built-in surrounds and two built-in front heights with one 10in sub for a 4.1.2 system.

The center is an MTM with raised tweeter and I definitely suffer the typical MTM issues. But, having a dedicated center is wayyy better than not.

I run music and theater in multiple DSP modes because it's just fun to switch things up.

For anyone thinking about this with Sony, I recently got a Bravia 7 and the TV speaker as center channel is a gimmick. I couldn’t figure out why my sound was so recessed and distorted in my 5.2 system, but found it was because the TV automatically assigned it over my real center. May not happen to everyone but I have a Sony AVR and it may have done a handshake. Easy enough fix in the settings once I figured what happened. I don’t think it could put out enough SPL beyond 4-5 feet and can’t be doing much 200-220 Hz and below

With the TV between my L/R floor standing speakers, and at ~ 11.5 ft away, I can't go bigger than 65".

The 55 or 65" Sony A95L also has a pair of speaker level inputs. My plan was to drive it with a separate amp and use a MCH DAC like the Okto DAC 8 Pro to feed it, my mains amp and Rythmik F12 subs. But who knows how good that Sony TV audio would sound as a center.

Understood discussion has moved on. Just wanted to post the info in case someone comes looking to use tv as center channel speaker based on the thread title.
