Using my DIY Line Arrrays with a Lyngdorf TDAI-1120

I wonder about what is needed for my line arrrays ?

Five years ago a friend helped me use my Line Arrays
he had made himself and sold to me for only 70€.

This is how it installed it all :

PC with Foobar2000, REW and JRiver.
Next step out of the PC was a REM Digiface USB (that I am selling)

Then to 2 Alienteks amps with optical cables.
One Alientek went to the mediums and the other to the tweeters
since the wiring of the speakers has two separate cables
for tweeters and mediums. I suppose this is bi-ampling ?

He then installed a tiny filter for the tweeters
on each speaker, as he said, it was to protect the tweeters.

I also had at the time a third alientek for the sub/woofer,
today I only have a very cheap active sub.

How can I hook up these line arrays
to my Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 arriving next week ?

The Lyngdorf only has Left/Right speaker output, so you'd have to design and build an analog crossover filter to connect between the Lyngdorf and the two driver banks of each array.
 
I suppose that audiophonics have things to sell ready to install
For a DIY line array? I doubt it.

What crossover frequency, slope, and level difference between the mid woofers and tweeters do you need?

What's the total impedance of each driver bank?

If you have no answers, then buying a readymade crossover is pointless.
 
How did it work with the RME Digiface USB five years ago ?
I suppose all that was done in the PC by my friend.
How to find out ? With a measurement with REW ?

I remember you posted deciding between miniDSP Flex and Lyngdorf ...but you didn't mention you were trying to setup DIY line array. I would've pushed you towards the Flex

I don't know whether my line arrays sound good, I will measure them with REW in june.

Why is the FLEX more adapted for my Line Array's ?

My friend who sold me these Line Array did respond this time
and with an image and this message :

Four groups of three speakers in series for the midrange: so that should be 8 * 3/4 = 6 Ohms.
MONACOR SPM-100/8 Compact Hi-Fi Mid-Bass Speaker, 25 W, 8 O

Four groups of eight speakers in series for the tweeter: so that should be 8 * 8/4 = 16 Ohms.

I am asking AudioPhonics for a passive filter

and this is the one. Certainly not a beauty but it sounded good to my standards five years ago.

If I understand things correctly, my Lyngdorf TDI 1120 can be configured to work as a bi amping pre amp.

I have 2 small alientek amps I used 5 years ago with an active foobar2000 crossover

so if Lyngdorf can do bi amping, I suppose that I can use and configure it for my line arrays with my 2 alientek's amps ?

In case they, my line arrays comes out good with REW, I could upgrade my alienteks.
 
Maybe your friend remembers his crossovers/HPF/LPF for the line array that would save a lot of time
 
No, 5 years ago, but got this :

The path in the Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 WebUI to set up 3-way active: mids + tweeters + sub.

You’ll need to be on the same network as the 1120. Type the unit’s IP address in Chrome/Safari. You’ll see the Lyngdorf interface.

1. Open the WebUI
1. Find the IP: On the 1120 front panel press Menu > Network > IP Address
2. Type that IP in your browser. Log in. Default password is usually blank.

2. Enable bi-amp + sub output
1. Click *Audio Settings* in the left menu
2. Click *Output Configuration*
3. Under *Speaker Setup*, select *Custom 2.1 + High/Low* or *Custom 3-Way*. On newer firmware it’s called "Custom 3-Way".
4. This gives you:
- Output A = PRE-OUT 1 = Low/Mid
- Output B = PRE-OUT 2 = High/Tweeter
- Output C = SUB OUT = Sub

3. Set crossover points
1. Still in *Audio Settings*, click *Speaker Setup*
2. You’ll see 3 channels: High, Low, Sub
3. Click *High Channel*:
- Filter Type: `Highpass`
- Slope: `LR 24 dB/oct`
- Frequency: `3000 Hz` to start
4. Click *Low Channel*:
- Filter Type: `Lowpass`
- Slope: `LR 24 dB/oct`
- Frequency: `3000 Hz` to match
5. Click *Sub Channel*:
- Filter Type: `Lowpass`
- Slope: `LR 24 dB/oct`
- Frequency: `90 Hz` to start
- Set `Subsonic` highpass to `30 Hz` LR 24 to protect the JBL TLX SUB 125

4. Set delay and level
1. Click *Speaker Setup* > *Distance/Delay*
2. Measure physical distance from listening position to:
- Mids
- Tweeters
- Sub
3. Enter distances in cm. The 1120 converts to delay automatically. If tweeters are 5 cm in front of mids, add 0.05 m to tweeter distance.
4. Click *Speaker Setup* > *Level*
5. Start with: Low 0 dB, High +4 dB, Sub +2 dB. Adjust by ear or with REW.

5. Run RoomPerfect
1. Click *RoomPerfect* in left menu
2. Select *Focus Position* and follow the mic prompts
3. This will EQ all 3 channels together

*Save*: Top right "Save" after any change.

Key thing:
Double check you wired PRE-OUT 1 to mids amp, PRE-OUT 2 to tweeters amp, SUB OUT to sub amp. If you swap them you’ll blow tweeters.
 
My Line Arrays, not so easy without any filters....

but I got this advice :

Using XOver Pro :

1. Start with the 1120’s crossover alone, basic settings 3000 Hz LR24.

2. Measure with REW.

3. Use XOver Pro offline to simulate an optimized version.

4. Enter the new parameters into the 1120.
