Using Apple TV with external USB DAC

If the Apple TV is connected to a TV, the optical audio output of the TV could be connected to the USB of a HRT Music Streamer II+.

I think Apple TV models since 2015 don't have S/PDIF output, maybe OP has an older Apple TV.

BTW, some of the Optical to USB converters are close to price of a DAC with both USB and Optical inputs, I wonder if connecting to HRT Music Streamer II+ with all the converters is the best idea?

USB DACs require a USB host (i.e. a computer). If you use a SPDIF to USB card, you need a USB host running software to route the captured SPDIF signal to the USB DAC. This can be done with a raspberry pi running CamillaDSP (see my signature), but it isn't exactly a plug and play setup.

I have the Apple TV connected to the videoprojector via HDMI, from the optical output of the videoprojector I go to the DAC.
