Hi

Not sure if you know this, but many useful Denon functions such as Audyssey DEQ on/off, DV on/off, show status, direct sound mode, channel volume, and more, which aren't available in the original remote can be easily programmed into any hub-based Harmony remote.

Just go to Harmony setup and add a new device. Select Denon AVR-X7200WA and rename it to "Denon-extra".

Now go to customize either activity or device commands on the screen and add new commands from the newly added "Denon-extra" device. You'll find many direct access commands such as the useful "status" button which will show the sample rate or HDMI resolution and refresh rate on the front panel display. Such a command cannot be accessed from the original remote neither the control app.

This trick works on all Denon models from X200 to X700H.

Now for the favor I need. Before I upgrade my good ole X4400H to either X4700H or the X3800H, I must know that the new X800H models still support the aforementioned trick.

So anyone with a Harmony hub remote + a new Denon AVR, please follow the above instructions and try to add the "status" command and check if it works, and report back.

I'd much appreciate the help.

You can of course delete the added device if you don't need to access these one-click commands.

Thanks.

I can confirm the following from my AppleTV4K to my Denon 3800 using the Harmony SMART remote:

The Boys (Amazon Video w/ads) - PCM, 48kHz, 3/2/.1
Dune Part 2 (Max w/Dolby Vision) - Dolby Atmos, 48kHz, Atmos

I was expecting it to show up on the TV screen but this was from the 3800's front panel. Is this what you're looking for?
Thanks for the tip! I was hoping for more detailed info (especially for the PCM bitrate) but it at least gives the expected info from the source!

Not sure that's exactly what I meant. Did you add the new device? I was referring to programming the Harmony with new hidden Denon commands. Just use the Harmony app and add a new device named Denon AVR-X7200WA/ Then look at all available IR commands for this new device and try them out on the X3800H.

You'll find a command that can turn Dynamic EQ or Dynamic vol on and off or show the status info on the front panel as if you got up and pressed the status button. There are commands to change the volume level of every channel without having to use the "options" menu and press many times...

You'll even discover a 5th "quick-select" option...

Not all commands work of course. Commands like DTS-NEO will not work because of the lack of support for this decoding mode. But commands like Dolby Atmos work in case the AVR is playing Atmos as simple DD+, as it happens when I play Atmos from my HTPC. This saves me time having to scroll through all the sound modes.

I was speaking specifically about using the "Status" command after adding the X7200 to my Harmony remote. I didn't test the DEQ function since I normally run Dirac and DEQ won't work w/Dirac.

I'll try out the other functions tonight after flipping over to the Audyssey calibration.

I switched over to Audyssey last night and tested the following:

Dynamic Volume Day/Mid/Evening- appears to be on both remotes
Dynamic EQ ON/OFF - on 3800 remote but not on 7200
Status - only on 7200
Direct Sound - I forget which remote but I think it may have been both

Note that "remote" above refers to the virtual Harmony version and not the physical remote! As I don't normally use Audyssey, the only new button for me is Status. As the Status button doesn't give me audio bitstream info, it would be useless to manually add it to my setup just for one function. You probably already know this but there are way more commands on the 3800 virtual remote vs the physical (this is probably true for most devices in the database).

I wonder if all of these hidden commands are also available on other Harmony alternatives like the Sofabaton. I did contact them a week ago.

Assuming you have the Harmony Hub/Remote already, it doesn't cost you anything to add the device with the functions you're curious about (even if you don't own the device).

I'm planning on getting the Sofabaton. I'll wait a few more days to get their reply about the Denon command database. They did acknowledge my query and should be getting back to me with a full list of available commands for Denon AVRs. So far I;ve seen very positive reviews of the Sofabaton as a Harmony successor.

I've seen and heard mostly the opposite. One recent review was positive but still pointed out the gap between the Sofabaton and Hub based Harmony remotes. As for Harmony, if Logitech hadn't pulled out of the market, I would likely already have purchased an Elite. But I will just stick with my Harmony Companion.
