Hello, I am a beginner. I bought a USB 2.0 isolator with an adum3165 chip for my audio interface, I don't know how many watt the focusrite solo gen 3 consumes, it is not written anywhere. I wonder ,will it work? Thanks

Isolator works with 400Ma and 2 watt

Hi @Icarus88! Welcome to ASR.

Focusrite do not say how much current the Solo 3rd Gen needs, so it's anyone's best guess if 400mA will suffice.

If you're curious, USB Power Meters are available for a fraction of the cost of your isolator, and they can be used to assure sufficient power delivery to the interface, by checking current draw once with and once without the isolator attached.

Thank you,really nice idea.

I gambled, If it doesn't work I will return it

It's a small device, it has one instrument input and one xlr input, I think it's enough. If not, return

If you don't have a particular problem you don't need that device. And digital problems are rare. Most audio problems and limitations are on the analog-side.

How are adum3165 chips for audio interfaces?
It's not handling "audio" it's handling digital data which happens to be audio data. Any "digital" noise problems you might be having are related to noise getting to interface's analog circuitry through the power or ground connections, not the data connections. The microphone inputs are prone to noise sensitivity because the preamps amplify any noise along with the signal.

I don't know if your device is isolating the power & ground. There are isolators that "re-generate" the power, so both the data and power are isolated.

I don't think cheap interfaces isolate power

My focusrite probably does not isolate power and grounding. Does the product I ordered not isolate power?
