I'm considering upgrading from my Yamaha A2070 AVR because I recently added a subwoofer to my setup and would like better RoomEQ and could also use some more modern features like Dolby Vision and 120hz VRR support.

My setup is 2x Revel F206 floorstanders, Revel C205 center speaker and a Hsu VTF2-MK5 sub. The two floorstanders are driven by a external Purifi amp, so I'm not too worried about the utmost power coming out of an AVR, more worried about the pre-amp stage and having the lowest distortion coming out of that part.

I'm looking at the Denon X3800H/X4800H (is there a newer version of that coming out anytime soon btw?), but are there any other AVRs I should consider that are good and can be expected to last a while? Plan on getting Dirac Live Bass Control if I get the Denon.

I'm also debating adding a second subwoofer to even out bass response in my room, so good bass control will be useful.

The 4800 bench tested better than the 3800. Both should offer a lot of future proofing. Both offer Audyssey and Dirac (optional cost). Nice thing is you can get one via Crutchfield and return it if you want the other. Also same with two subs—add one now and see if you like it. If not add another. No real bad decisions waiting you.

Any other brands to consider here? Like Onkyo for example?

Or just get the Denon as it’s solid?

You already believe the Denon is solid and it is. Again if you use crutchfield you can buy and try risk free.

I plan on buying through Accessories4Less, they have a $1600 open box X4800H. With full manufacturer 3yr warranty. Good deal, and I don't care if it might have a small scratch on it.

Edit: actually I see Best Buy has it on sale for <$2K, brand new. Good deal, will get that. And I have their membership, so I can test it for 60 days and return if I decide I need something else.
