upgrading ancient system

lol, i have no idea of the answer, or for that matter the difference. Sorry.

I have the manual, and it says nothing other than 60w power consumption. Another site said "30W+30W output (at 6 ohms). 8 times oversampling digital filter."

Leo (Ai on brave) says the speakers art 15-75 w, 6 ohms, 75HZ -20Khz, 88 db sensitiity, and designed to for balanced sound, noted for good imagin esp in small to medium sized rooms.

I feel like kid in a candy store. Until a few days ago, we were playing ECho Dot thru Denon, until we learned phone or pc was better connection. It was quite noticeable! And I never heard of hi res radio, which is tons better than free spotify. Now I learned both OTOH, and Spm. We are currently using an android app for SPM and very happy with 63 av. db and max 98.1. At 70 it is a little loud for us. However, as mentioned at outset, the speakers on a counter between two rooms, and this is the smaller one. When we go in kitchen 68 avg seems about max we like
Just that amps are only so efficient, and suspect that is not the max power your power supply can provide to achieve it's stated output. Wonder why can't find anything on that model, tho....that the full model number? Curious, does it have a sub pre-out (thinking of that fairly high f3/f6 for the speakers at 75hz).

A wattage recommendation for a speaker only means so much. 15 watts is probably more than you use most of the time, 75 is probably where they start to have potential for damage. With the speakers' sensitivity, power and your distance from speakers you can use something like this to estimate needed amp power http://www.hometheaterengineering.com/splcalculator.html. Keep in mind to gain merely 3dB output from your speakers requires a doubling of power. I didn't try AI, was looking for a spec sheet or manual, wonder where AI found the spec tho I didn't see any in the few things (mostly ads) that came up in my search.

I use Spotify premium myself, happy with that, much better than the free version IMO. I tend to want at least a good 256-320 kbps codec for internet radio, lossless would be nice but don't remember running into that much altho I haven't really used a lot of internet radio. How do you connect your phone to the sound system?

My bad, it is UD-M5 Denon - combined radio, CDD. It was sold as a package with the Mission speakers. We have the manual, and it has very little re specs. It has a pre out sub, but we don't have a sub.

I will have to read up on the splcalculator to understand what it is telling me. At first look, I don't understand what it does (it seems to require amps, rather than provide what is good) , but will study more!

I definitely want to upgrade to something, at a minimum the Wiim Amp, and more likely the Wiim Amp Pro or Wiim Amp Ultra. If nothing else, we will get a good DAC. Whether we can tell the difference between the various DAC,s , I suppose I will never know unless we them all, lol.

We connect the iphone to the pc to the Denon with a little wire that I think is Apple Lighning? Looks a lot like the long wire to connect pc , one into headfphone jack and other RCA outputs. Neither the iphone i13 nor the Denon has better outputs or inputs. I had interesting discussions with AI as to whether the iphone or pc provided a better DAC, and got some different answers - seems like DAC better on pc, but it may be degraded since there are other things in the pc. I like the pc better anway since I find it much easier for searching, reading and most of all typing!
