My Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 finally have gone kaput, they served me beautifully as my desktop / work speakers but they've gotten super statickyl and sometimes don't turn on. Anyone have suggestions to as an upgrade path? Overall I liked the Klipsch Pro Media, may just buy another pair of used but is there one that markedly better?

I'll budget around $1000 USD or so if there is a set of speakers worthwhile for near field listening. (I have LS50's in the living room that I might be able to convince the wife to move into my office and then get something bigger for the living room)

Many Walmart stores currently have this Pro Media 2.1 set on sale for $69, which is hard to beat at this price.

But if you have $1K to spend, you can definitely do better. Those new Kali IN-5 look promising, and you should have enough money left over for a decent sub and a DAC.

$70 is not bad, but I’ve had these for like a decade or something now, and they are showing their age and I bought them when I got my first job after uni, and let’s just say my career has paid some dividends since.

Do they have things like a near field sub?? No understanding of how subs work in the office environment.

Will check out the Kalis

For $1000, there are a bunch of good options. You may need to factor in a DAC of some sort if you weren't using one before, but good DACs are like $100 now. Regardless:

Let's say actives, no bigger than 5" nominal woofer. For desktop usage (i.e., mostly on axis, close in) I'd recommend any of the following:
- Dynaudio Lyd5 or BM5A Mk3 ($1000/pr)
- Neumann KH80 ($1000/pr)
- Kali IN-8 (or, if that's too big, the IN5) ($800 and $700/pr, respectively)
- Focal Shape 50 (used) (~$1000/pr or less used, $1400/pr new)

I'd skip a sub for now and just focus on a pair of full-range speakers.

If you like Klipsch, Costco offers a great deal for it's members:
Klipsch Reference Dolby Atmos Surround System for $799.99

2 - R-625FA Tower Speakers
2 - R-41M Bookshelf Speakers
1 - R-52C Center Channel Speaker
95 feet of Speaker wire

Crutchfield is selling the R-625FA towers for $689 each. So it is a huge deal. But you need to purchase inside a Costco. Costco online sells the package for $899.99 which is still a great deal but not as good as the in-store price. Costco also sells the R-41M bookshelf speakers for $89/pair.

Quite a few years ago I was in a similar position (something wrong with my Klipsch) and was looking to upgrade anyway. I decided to go with the JBL LSR305 and could not have been happier (good performance and price), I have them paired with a Objective 2 DAC. The new version of those have been reviewed on here I believe so you should check the review out.
