Upgrade from Genelec 8010A to 8331 for clearer low end?

Hi there! I've been making music in a small studio with the Genelec 8010A (no subwoofer), and I've been happy with them. However, I was listening to some of my tracks in a pro studio, and I realized that I'm really missing out on low end detail. So I'm considering upgrading to the 8331A, which I assume has a stronger/more detailed low end. Plus, they're still quite small (which I like). I suppose I could get a subwoofer, but I don't really have the space for it on my desk. (Plus, I feel like it looks ugly).

Is getting the Genelec 8331 a logical upgrade path? They price range is completely different – $2500 vs $350 – can I expect other benefits in addition to a clearer/more powerful low end?

(If it helps, my studio is about 5 meters deep and 3.5 meters wide, and the speakers are about 30cm away from the wall).

Definitely an upgrade and likely to still benefit from a sub. The 8330 & 7350 would be nice.

For sure 8331A will have better bass than 3" midwoofers, but if you just need more low end, you can buy some compact sealed subwoofer with integrated crossover. It will be cheaper and much better in terms of bass.
Even 8331A will not give you studio quality bass because they are too small, compact and BR.
And I don't even talk about room.

Thanks for the replies @FeddyLost @mkt!

So it sounds like the consensus is "just get a subwoofer"? It would be cheaper, sure (but that's not my main priority).

For my space, I feel that a subwoofer would be bulky, though.

Any other suggestions besides just getting the 8331s?

GLM will give you easy room correction. My in-room GLM measurement of a 8331B looks like

With that peak at 50 Hz, it get down to 38 Hz or so, which is lower than the Genelec plot (anechoic?) above. And Genelec SAM sub integration is easy with GLM if you decide to go in that direction. The 7350A sub is pretty compact (some would say too small; H 410 x W 350 x D 319 mm, H 16 5/32 x W 13 25/32 x D 12 9/16 in) and gets things down to 20 Hz in my small room.

Depending on your SPL requirements ... you can use something like KH750 DSP sized 383 x 330 x 383 mm (15 1/8" x 13" x 15 1/8")
It will go deep, but not very loud.

But if you will go Genelec way, it's better to have Genelec subwoofer for better integration. 7350 as recommended before, or even 7360 to be sure.

8331 will improve the situation a lot, but depending on your room and genres, you might still need some subwoofer.
If you are making EDM or Rap, some support below 40 Hz might be required.
