Unpopular Opinions in Music

With a few exceptions, I just don’t like Classical Music. I’d rather take a cheese grater to the inside of my thighs than go to a symphony or even worse an Opera.
I'm a bit like that with Rock music. Electric guitars in particular grate on me.

Yes, a minty wonderful SS. It was bone stock with chrome 5 spoke Cragar rims and wide low profile radials. Freakishly awesome car that went really good and was fun as can be to ride in. I've been in some pretty powerful cars built solely for burning off the tires but the Chevelle SS was so smooth to ride in, sounded real nice and was comfy.
OMG That car epitomizes what a bunch of little government mandated crap boxes they build today. Freakin fugly 4 doors, they all look exactly the same with tiny interiors and no elbow room. Re-imagine that SS396 with a modern maintenance free computer controlled ignition, etc; it probably adding another 25-50 hp, traction control the rest.

Damn Robin, I thought I was fairly well versed in rockstar pianists but I never heard of those folks you mention.
How about Rick Wakeman, or Richard Wright, or Keith Emerson or, or, or. ???

Over-rated dinosaurs.

I'm a HUGE Van Halen fan, this, being Spanish and lived all my life Here is like being a fan of a bunch of nobodies. Even on their prime, Van Halen is/was a hardly known band.
Back to topic, as much as I love Van Halen (I have since I was 12, and I'm 51), keeping Van Halen 3 aside, I don't quite like 1984 (the album). Jump is a catchy pop song, listenable, with a so so guitar solo by Eddie Van Halen, I don't like either Hot For Teacher and Panama, which has great guitar playing, but it's a too-Roth song for my taste. The icing of the cake, I like Drop Dead Legs and I'll Wait, but don't Simmons drums are not my cup of tea.
I'm keeping on with Van Halen, I don't like their Women and Children First album. I like And The Cradle Will Rock, it's good. The rest of the album, I find It to be mostly Eddie's guitar flashy playing with no substance. I find It an "unmelodic" album, a rarity by Van Halen standards.
Just my 0.02 $.

Spain.
Sorry if sometimes I make mistakes when writing in English, but it's not my mother languaje.
In addition to that I surfer of Atention Deficit Disorder, I use to speak or write, either in Spanish or English way too fast, sometimes not explaining myself properly saying or writing phrases incomplete, talking some things I try to say for granted, like in this case.
I should have written "I'm Spanish and I have lived in my home country (or de in Spain) for all my life.
Sorry for the off topic.

Your English is more than good enough. I can only imagine how poorly I would do on a Spanish language forum. ;)

Shouldn't you first ask 'Which Van Halen?'?:D

Probably "Central"!
I started listening to Van Halen in 1986, I was 12 at the time, and not to leave the phrase incomplete, my first Van Halen album was 5150, so It was what many call "Van Hagar".
As impopular as It may sound I've never chosen an era, I like Van Halen both with Roth and Hagar. They did quite (very?) different kind of music with Roth and Hagar, song composing was different , that I see logical as each singer has a different voice register (Hagar as a singer has a better voice than Roth IMHO), but the main reason why I love Van Halen was Eddie's guitar playing.
I think Eddie Van Halen was not only one of the best guitar player, he was a true innovator. Many people say that true guitar playing innovation stopped with Hendrix, and a innovations started again with Eddie Van Halen. I honestly don't know what to think about this, It maybe true or not.

All rock guitar solos suck. All of them

Not so fast
As much as I like Hendrix, and think that is the best version of the song, the part I consider a solo (1:44 to 2:30) pales in comparison to what happens at 2:30. Imagine if they took the ethos and applied it to that 45 second solo! An even better song!

Wow after what you said I didn't expect that response. There are several good solos by each Betts and Allman on this classic. I don't listen to much Rock any more but never tire of this song.

I’m mostly shittalking but honestly do think there is a lot of music that would be improved if musicians remember they serve the music, rather than the music serving them. There are actually any number of guitar solos I think are great.

I understood your intent. And agree with your point. It fits in with the gist of this thread.
