Most people in their homes do not need the flexibility of Ethernet digital audio. You will see HDMI, AES or S/PDIF.
Usually UA and the many 8+ mic/line IO makers put the preamps and Ethernet or local digital interface to the DAW in the same box. UA is introducing a PoE single channel Dante mic/line preamp which can be processed by the x16D, proceed to the DAW, then a e2m PoE Dante DAC-headphone amp with 2 inputs can play it out. The brains, their DSP, runs $US 3-4K with plugins.
The brains allows the mic/line preamp to emulate the "color" of classic Neve, API, SSL, etc.
