Greetings,

I have been reading the different posts for dedicated listening chairs. The one that seems to be most reccomended under $1,000 is the Chita Elvin

I am debating on if this is the one I want to try -- that said, just curious if anyone knows of other options that are good for longer listening sessions?

Thanks in advance,

EDIT: If anyone has experiences with this chair from Article, I would love to hear your thoughts as well:

Low cost for listening? Ikea Poang. I dont have one as I prefer a higher seating position. That Elvin is a good looking chair!

Lol...... called the supervisor (and going to go straight to IKEA after work and give it a test drive :D Thanks for the suggestion! Hoping to see more reccomendations.

Im really curious how low the seating position is in comparison to the torture seats my wife currently has in my listening area.

I have this one (IDK if available in your country) and it's quite comfortable and creak-free. Under 250 $ (assembly required, but easy)

The downside: a cover will be needed, because the bright fabric won't remain so, with jeans and such...

Not sub-$1K, but I had come across many an advertisement from the Roche Bobois folks, so when I found myself by a showroom, I had to take a look. Bold statement pieces seem to be their specialty. But I found the "Bubble" sofa and lounge chair really very comfy.

UPDATE:

So I got to go to IKEA and test-drive a few chairs. First time there in maybe 10+ years and was surprised at the variety of chairs. Here are some takes.

I tried the Poang. There are a few varieties for them, however, all of them were a bit too low to the ground (and hard for me to stand out of). at 5'10, 270lbs, the chairs did rock a little too much as well. However for those that are shorter (and the vast majority that are lighter) I think its worth a try.

There were three other chairs tho that impressed immensely....

GOOD - Ekenaset ($329)

This chair in the non-leather variety provided a good bit of lumbar support. Strange though that the leather variety was less supportive. Not sure if it was specific to that chair or a pattern with all leather varieties. It is slightly taller than the Poang but not to where its an impediment to standup. I could probably see myself sitting it for an hour to 90 minutes. Matching ottoman is $80 so for the extremely budget conscious, this is pretty decent.

BETTER - Vedbo ($449)

This one was VERY comfortable.... high back and due to it not being leather, it is probably less susceptible to reflection issues than one with a high back and leather. Definately could sit in this for two hours. Only potential issue is for those that do leg day at the gym or are big backs, the armrest does narrow at the bottom and could squeeze you at the thighs. For me it was a minimal issue.

BEST - Oskarshamn ($449-$499)

This chair right here is unbelievable. I could probably nap in it for a few hours. The back headrest is not overly tall and hits right at the middle of my head. The materials are nice and the only drawback was the armrest being a little on the thin side. The matching Ottoman would add an extra $150 ish bucks but would be a great palce to stash my remotes -- So far this is the chair that is in the lead.

I don't like tall head rests as they influence the reflected sound. Nerdy, I know!

Yep, saw this article before posting. The Elvin was the one I saw there under 1K that seems to be universally liked.

And totally understand on the high backs. I have a friend that has a high back seat with leather and the sound does reflect and interfere with imaging. He put a throw on top of the seat and noticed much better improvements.

Depends how long is long. I tend to listen album-wise, and not more than two albums in one session, or one movie. This amounts to 3 hours max. For this, no problems for me. Sitting for a longer time is not too healthy anyway. Some people might complain about the wooden armpieces, I have no problem with these.

Sidenote: Since this is a recliner, I use a tempered glass panel under it, to avoid damaging the carpet. I'l include the link if I can find it, it was made in USA. It's theoretically for hardwood, but strong enough for not-too-thick carpet (mine is ca 1 cm).
Edit: Sorry, can't find it, is similar to this one, only larger:

It is comfy but too low for the average sized person.

I have the Ekenaset chair and sofa in our family room where I also have a HP listening setup. I've been very impressed with chair for the price.

This might seem self evident to others, but how can you tell when the chair is listening? Does it bob its head when the beat is strong?

I'm a bit shorter and a little over half your weight, and it's one of the most comfortable chairs I've tried. The foam on the back collapses at the corner of the cross-piece in the lumbar region - it really needs some stiffening material in that area to spread the load a bit. I guess they haven't fixed that after all the years it's been in production because it keeps people buying replacement cushions.

Of note from a listening point of view - they've now got a version without the headrest. For some reason they don't have the same range of cushions as the usual one though.

Appreciate this post. I am in the process of tweaking my soon to be semi-dedicated listing room and wanted to update the seating now on a budget while I look for fancier longer-term options.

Went with 2x Oskarshamn with ottomans, one for me and one for my wife for normal day-to-day usage. You were quite correct on the comfort! I also got 1 Ekenaset to have elsewhere in the room that I can swap with my Oskarshamn for critical listening without a headrest.
