Hello community, and happy 2026! I bought a TX-8470 last year for my garage, but didn't like the way it sounded there. I decided to stay with my Onkyo Integra system (P 308 pre amp, M506 R6 Amp, EQ-540 Equalizer, Technics SB-2655, and CW KLS-215 speakers). I love the way the setup sounds. I use it with my FLAC files through a Fosi K7. So I decided to buy the TX-8470 to save some space. I knew I would give out quality and power, but decided to check it out. Just as I thought I didn't like it
I decided to use the TX-8470 in my living room since I had an older audio/video amp, my living room has very high ceilings and a weird shape, so acoustics are horrible and will never work with a surround system, I got the TX-8470 installed and use my TV's speakers as a center speaker (it has that option) it sounds a lot better than it did by itself for TV and general movie watching. Good for TV viewing, but when I want to listen to music (I love the fact that I can connect to my music server and stream from my PC in the garage), the audio sucks big time. I know an equalizer will help a lot to compensate for the bad acoustics of the living room, I have a couple of extra EQs (A Pioneer SG-9800, an SG-9500 and an ADC SS-2 IC), I played with it trying to connect the EQ but since the TX-8470 lacks a TAPE input/output the only way I was able to do it was connecting the Zone 2 output and back in on the CD player, it works fine, but I can't control the volume since the zone 2 output is flat level, I contacted Onkyo for advice, but they didn't help at all, I don't think they knew what an equalizer was lol! Very frustrating. So, I was wondering if any of you had to experiment with TX-8470/Equalizer connections. If you have any advice, I will really appreciate it, and sorry for the long description.
