Two amps that share a single subwoofer?

Greetings all!

Is there any issue with connecting a vintage amp (Carver) to the speaker level input of a subwoofer and then also connecting a class d amplifier (Douk A5) to the rca inputs of the same subwoofer? Only one system would be in use at a time. Is there any risk of backfeeding the amp that is not in use or causing damage to anything?

Additional info that may not be relevant: The speaker level outputs of the subwoofer are wired to speakers that are only in use with the vintage/Carver amp (the class d/Douk powers speakers from its own speaker outputs/binding posts).

Thanks!

It should be OK but if possible check with the subwoofer manufacturer. We don't know what's inside. ;)

I can't think of a good reason to do that unless you want to share the sub between a music setup and a different home theater setup..

The speaker-level inputs usually go through a attenuator (a simple resistor circuit) to bring the signal down to line level so the higher level speaker input. Anything additional in the signal chain will add some additional noise from the external power amp.

Sounds good and will take your advice to reach out to the manufacturer just to be safe. Thanks for the info. I have a vintage system with vintage speakers and received the Douk as a gift and bought new speakers. So I’m just playing around and comparing the sound of old/expensive to new/cheap and having a sub for both would be ideal. Not sure if having fun qualifies as a good reason but unfortunately it’s all I got. Thanks again, appreciate it!
