Does driver size versus the number of drivers affect how a speaker can handle lower frequencies and also the dynamics?

As an example, all else being roughly equal, would the speaker perform better with two 6" drivers instead of one 8" driver?

To be even more specific, if we take Revel speakers for instance, they have speakers like the F206 that have two 6" drivers - how would this compare to the F208 if the F208 had only one 8" driver?

I ask because I have the JBL 708P speakers and they have 8" drivers. I was wondering if the F206 or the new F226Be would be a downgrade in terms of dynamics & SPL capability.

Thanks

Two 6" drivers have roughly the same area as a single 8" driver. The problem is that there are a myriad of other variables including driver excursion, driver power handling, driver frequency response, cabinet size, crossover frequencies, etc. Things are rarely equal... I tend to look at frequency response, power handling, dispersion, etc. and rarely pay much attention to driver size and number.
